There is a reason for everything. That definitely includes his refusal to provide references. As a former Montana outfitter and the current owner of a business that sells diy elk hunting plans I LOVE when someone asks for references. Why believe the guys trying to sell you something? References are better at selling it for me. Prospective clients know that a reference doesn’t make anything if they book. He just tells his story. 99 times out of 100 if a hunter likes the service I offer and it’s in his price range as soon as they call my references they get right back to me and say book it.

If the guy can’t think of a single person who has something nice to say about him, that is a hard no!
