Sad deal in my opinion. Really enjoyed their podcast. Seems to me this guy will do anything for money. Would have to believe there were investors that were more aligned with the outdoorsman. It may be only Kifarucast for me. Refreshing to not hear all the bullshit ads and know selling out will most likely not happen.

It's not safe here in California, though. Just saying.... How is that possible? Because no one who is powerful enough is challenging California and California is so strong and so Rouge!!!

Yeah I just don’t get how CA gets away with what they do, is it the 9th circuit or that the SCOTUS just won’t take any cases from there on this?

Controlling interest, ?? If that's true, Rinella thoughts are mute. The direction of everything was SOLD to the buyers to take in any direction they choose. I cant understand why anyone would sell out controlling interest of the company they built and still stay with it. Especially when the buyers (most possibly) do not believe in what you built.

I'm no expert on these issues. It seems it's the same reason California get's away with defying Federal law, such as legalizing pot, and sanctuary cities. It's politics, the President and the feds have to weigh things out. I'm a super, super states right's guy, however, the states MUST follow the Constitution, which California does not. No state, no city or town shall infringe upon my 2nd Amendment Rights. That's how it's supposed to be, however, it is not. Carl DeMaio a former San Diego Councilman and conservative with a radio show lead the gas tax repeal, which was soundly defeated in November. The State raised the gas tax 30 cents a gallon and Carl fought back to appeal it. He said that we already paid high gas taxes for our roads and bridges and some of that money was being diverted to other things. I cannot for the life of me understand how it got defeated. However, some people I talked to thought the Proposition was to RAISE the gas tax, so they voted against it, Doh!! Others said, "well this gas tax money will be used for our roads and that's ok". I say California is lost. I was born here and have lived my entire life here.

Yeah CA has a history of pushing unconstitutional taxes through but they did just lose on the MTS tax as being unconstitutional. So maybe there we’ll slowly see some changes.

I'm just speculating, however money could be the reason. I know someone that sold their small engineering company to a much larger company and part of that sale I was told was them staying on for several years, I believe. Money is a huge thing. I'm ashamed that it drives me as much as it does. I'm not a rich greedy guy, but I'm addicted to a nice life style and lots of gadgets....

I'm near retiring with a pension and want to move out of state. California tried unsuccessfully to tax people's pension that move out of state. That sent chills up my spine. Most of you all don't really seem to understand what the end game is. California is far, far from slowing down, things just seem to get crazier, faster. So sad.

Old story. I have zero issue with Rinella. Best ambassador in the industry as far as im concerned.... the division in our country is nauseating.

I don't see trying to keep those who represent hunters a whole in line any different than I do a politician. If certain representatives are beyond scrutiny, or think they are, that's where the problems start.

My simple view; Steve needed financing to be able to walk away from the networks and make a cutting edge outdoor ("out of doors" as his group says it) media (they say "content") company. Can’t imagine he had many choices in financiers . I'm certain he made what he believes was the best choice for him and his company.

That article is odd in that it starts out hating on Steve and his new crew and then finishes off praising him.

I have a lot of mixed feelings about this.

A lot of people don't know that Peter Chernin was CEO of the Fox Group from 1996-2009. Doesn't seem he did much to push his agenda at fox news. The Chernin group also owns a majority share of Barstool Sports, the media group that frequently drives the "Toxic Masculinity" crowd insane. My concern is that Rinella selling controlling rights will result in him losing some of the direction that has made Meat Eater what it is. With 10s of millions of dollars from investors comes expectations to do something with that investment. It's a far cry from a few people doing their thing and answering to nobody.

The optimist in me hopes that this results in further exposure to the 97% of Americans that do not hunt. I can't think of another person who has done more to improve the public perception of hunters and this might help him be more effective yet. If it attracts a handful of people who don't see a need for AR's to be more involved in hunting/shooting/wildlife/wild places its no skin off my back.

Can't say I'd expect much different from a right wing propaganda source. I wonder if Steve gave them any quotes that could have been taken out of context. To me the concluder read like it was giving Steve's competence a lot of credibility but hinting at possible nefarious intentions.

I haven't lost confidence in Steve, But selling controlling interest makes him a hired hand. The content and guest on his show and podcast CAN be determined for him. That may not happen and time will tell.

To me the article in the Federalist was more about Republican vs. Democrat than anything else. I've listened to all of the podcasts and Steve has never said anything that is not in full support of 2A that I can remember. In my opinion he's the best advocate gun owning hunters have and unless he completely changes his stances I'll be following along. It's crazy to me how people can make judgments based on an article like this.

I was introduced to Meateater by a non-hunter, and I have supported his transition to hunting that Rinella sparked so I have literally watched Rinella's work broaden our sport. IMO he does not make a move without critical thought.

Further, I have heard his opinions on AR regulation straight from his mouth on a podcast and he is against it. He spoke not only is the idea that they are not for hunting false, but that it didn't matter anyway. His podcast also has touched on his support for delisting grizzly in the GYE and his relentless support for delisting when appropriate and wildlife management in general to be science based and without ties to emotion. IMO he has done a tremendous amount for the sport and continues to do so, but I understand that many will scream green decoy to the likes of Rinella, Callaghan, and even Randy Newberg because they support environmental conservation alongside hunting.

Lastly, I would encourage anyone who disagrees or wants more info to email Steve or meateater in general. They are extremely responsive, usually Brody emails me back but sometimes others.

I don't think I'd be so arrogant to those that might questions things, by automatically placing them in your convenient groups. I'm as conservation minded as anyone. I make a living off of resources that demand conservation. Wildlife included. No one on this thread is against anything or anyone you just posted as far as I have read. Only pointing out the dangers it might pose. I understand your response in the context of being disgusted with those that assume things. All I am saying is don't be that guy iwhile basing your whole point on "that guy.".

I’m very surprised... that anyone could possibly believe Steve Rinella is in any possible way bad for or anti-hunting.

Oh really.... Selling the controlling interest of his company to liberal shitbags doesn't somehow convince you?

Exactly.

SJW call-out culture and the virtue signalling that goes along with it is infecting the hunting community.

WTH is this supposed to mean? So poeple are supposed to have a 'shut up, move along, nothing to see here" mentality? The 'infection' is your use of phrases like 'virtue signaling' on this very forum'...
It's been interesting reading this thread. The usual suspects defending this outrageous deal.
Some guys would sell their kid to Satan if it turned them a profit. And that's probably a pretty good analogy in this case.
Some things should transcend money.
