Got an email with a link to their store. They still sell Vortex but now also sell Sig, Leupold and Swarovski.

I noticed the sig stuff a while back. Seems like they are shuffling things up. I listened to the bear grease podcast over the weekend and they were slinging vortex hard. I imagine as they grow, they are changing up their sponsorships.

All the youtubers and popular hunting personalities sell out to the highest dollar. It's the name of the game. Duck Commander and the Robertsons have flopped from Mossberg to Browning to Benelli. Look at the recent shifts from OnX to Go Hunt's mapping system. It's all about the Benjamins.

To the tune of Mamma Said Knock You Out:

Don’t call me a Sell Out,
I’ve been here for years

Pimping all the crap,
While I’m swilling the beers

Mossberg, browning, Benelli you’ll buy
While my bank account is getting sky high

Trust me, I’ve never used better,
Like my boots? They’re Irish Setter

You better buy now, stock is low
Oops, I see a buck, I gotsta blowzz

I’m gonna clean you out
Chernin says clean you out

I’m gonna clean you out
Vortex said clean you out

I’m gonna clean you out
first lite says clean you out…

You get the point…

How is getting paid more for the same job an issue?

Seems kinda smart!

Getting paid more is not an issue. For me slinging unreliable products is an issue. As such, I will not support companies and those supporting unreliable products. The reality is that they either don't care if the products they sling are unreliable (my comment here is not limited to just them), or they are ignorant about the unreliability of the products they sling. Slinging/promoting unreliable products is a disservice to their audience, or simply a complete lack of respect to their audience; you can chose which.

I agree with this however I do think it's the purchasers job to do their own due diligence and not just buy what they see a guy has on TV or the Internet.

You don't hear them talk much about Schnee's boots anymore either...

I'm not a Meateater hater. Watch their show and even have a bunch of Rinella's books.
But I do miss the old days of Rinella tromping around the mountains in whatever clothes he had, a custom rifle, and it being more about the hunt and cooking tongue up in the backcountry.

Yes indeed. Although I’m very critical of the new direction, i most definitely think the early stuff WAS on the right track. The overt commercialization is nauseating.

I feel the same way.

I feel like it became noticeable right around the Chernin acquisition. It's made me very skeptical of those kind of deals. In almost every case the owner puts out a video or article saying "nothings going to change, our values will stay the same, etc" but the reality seems to be that large companies have different priorities than owner/founders do.

I've simply moved on from their content.
