Had derailed a similar thread with this content but I thought it could be fun to help folks on RokSlide branch into Mycology, mushrooms & hunting have a lot of similarities.

Feel free to drop mushroom finds here & we can play, “is it food”. Pictured are my first ever Utah morels, first pic is a black morel & the other’s are half-free morels (white, black, yellow morel’s ugly inbreed cousin).

Finding them at 7,400’ elevation. The black morel under several years back fallen pine & the half-frees mixed with live willow in a flooded draw.

Got some morels and some hefty loads of oysters from the yard this spring. Dropped a couple half dead alders that will sit on the forest floor to pump up the oyster production over the next few years. The oysters love to grow on them. This is Western WA.

Being able to manage my land for mushrooms and bucks is a dream of mine! Do you bother soaking the logs or just let nature work?

We get enough moisture here for nature to take its course. I drop a couple every year that have got past their prime for firewood just for the oysters. Get them early as they don't last long because of a little black headed worm.

They always do! Pretty sure those are fruits fly larva. Back in Minnesota we get a TON of golden oysters on elm trees. Supposed to be invasive but it’s better than most mushrooms we have.

I'm assuming you know this is Chicken of the Woods!? For all others lurking, very tasty and found throughout most of the US/Canada. Way better than store mushrooms
Chicken of the Woods is a great one that occasionally is found is really enormous clusters - l've seen up to 50# on one tree.

Young ones way better than old.

And do not eat them if they are growing on pines/conifers (living or dead)...those often give people stomach issues.

I just picked 10 lbs of various mushrooms on our property just to keep the young kids from playing with them. The whole time, I kept thinking I’m throwing away dinner for a week haha

I’m assuming no pics? I recall having mushroom fights (like snowballs) with my younger brother, good times. Probably spread spores through the entire neighborhood.

Those morels you found are awesome. Wish I could find some. I didn’t get photos. But I’ll take some later. I ate a lobster mushroom last year. But I’m generally skeptical of everything.

Well, how about some cattle pasture shrooms, lol.
Not sure on these but just took pics and left them in the field.
We do have some of the biggest field mushrooms I have ever seen this wet year.

I feel you were excited to post shit onto rokslide 😂😂😂 those mushrooms are not going to be food. Not to get into rule violations but liberty caps are the Grateful Dead mushrooms and like cow poo. These aren’t them but if you learn how to ID, you might find some!

LOVE lobster mushrooms. They are the unsung heroes of the woods when it comes to being easy to find, taste great, and are EASY to identify. For those lurking, lobsters grow mid july-October. With Aug-Sep being key months. The should be firm and don’t have any gills. Bright orange, growing in dirt. Firm and white on the inside. A slight fish smell but not overpowering.

I turn mine + chanterelle into lobster rolls because MN don’t have real lobster!

I had read over the years that morels pop up in 1-2 year old burns from forest fires. So I picked a spot and started dumping some of my wood stove ash/black stuff. Lo and behold a couple years later the morels started to grow. I get them every year now.

Found two morels a couple days ago in Co. first ones I have ever seen in the state found at 9200 ft
