I had drawn an either species rifle tag (valid for mule deer) but was limited to the central third of Kansas, where there aren't really too many mule deer. Spent the entire archery season scouting. Practiced some stalking, even.

Found several nice whitetail bucks but no muleys. The last weekend I was looking to kill any mature deer and this one fit the bill, just my second big game animal ever. Killed him three miles from the road, so I got a lesson in quartering and packing out meat.
