Maybe a little Tikka competition?

Hmm, for only offering short action calibers, it's still a bit heavy isn't it? That and a couple hundred bucks more than a Tikka?

6.5-lbs is heavy now? MSRP $855, bet they sell for $650 street price, so will be the same club as Tikka with control round feed, etc. if this matters.

Yeah, they are going to kick butt!

As a Kimber fan, I'm really stoked about this.

And anyone who says 6.5 is heavy is crazy.

I guess I'm crazy then. My point is simply that the Tikka T3 with a long action comes in at almost a half pound under what this Kimber is spec'd at with a shorter action and I believe shorter barrel. By comparison, here is my T3 Superlite 300WM stock. Sure, it looses a little weight with the fluted barrel but this also includes the weight of the factory rings. Overall, I'd say that they more or less wash and this also includes the longer barrel of the magnum calibers.

I'd have to agree with ya - My '06 superlight with a Mtn Tactical bolt shroud & picatinny but no rings or scope and a fresh bedding job weighs in at 6lb 1.9oz

Yeah it is kind of surprising that it is 6.5lbs when both the Montana and Ascrnt series weigh much less. I get they had to find saving for the price point but with their experience in light weight you would think they could dropped a little more weight.

It all depends on Tikka's new offering. Could get interesting.....

They've got something in the works, but nobody is talking. I believe it supposed to be around March....

I think it's a cool idea especially being as it will be in the $650 price range in gun broker if not everywhere. Their sight lists the Montana for $1400+ and you can get them for $1000-$1100 all day long so I don't think $650 or less is unreasonable at all. Tikka super lights are around $700-$750 for less weight supposedly. We shall see how it goes. Certainly a good less expensive option and one in creedmor could be fun to tinker with.

Honestly the Ruger American stainless kicks the crap out of both Tikka and Kimber value wise. And will kill things just as dead ;)

If you want to start weight war, the Montana will kick Tikkas butt all day long. Back on planet earth, 6.5 is still solidly on the light end of the spectrum.

Absolutely. However, we aren't talking about the Montana. The whole point of this thread was Kimber's new rifle and how it compares (if it's competition) with a Tikka.

Guys will jump on board and say its the greatest thing since sliced bread. Just like T3's, RAR's, etc. I'll be the topic of discussion on every forum for 2016.

Pretty much a step back for Kimber and driven by price.
