He had 17 or 18, or he didn't draw a Type 1 in 2024.
No he didn’t that’s why I asked the question how. Did he get a commissioner tag? Landowner tag? And yes I know the landowner system in WY. There is a way to get landowner tags in WY without owning land so I’m curious if he went that loophole route.

He burned a few points a few years back

Big private ranches area 7 is a real winner if you have max points and max dollars. No wolves, big bulls. Lots of locked gates.

We scoff at them but if you got the points and money it’s world class elk hunting.

You are overthinking it. The guy didn't say he hunted elk with them last year. It could have been deer. He just said that he hunted with them.
True, or pronghorn. Just more curious about the giant elk comment. Have spent a lot of time there and there is not that many elk over 320 and very rarely does one break the 350 mark. There is a curve applied by locals and I’ve seen it as high as 20 points.

Fun hunt and cool area but I wouldn’t use max points there

I deleted my previous comment after reading the quoted post. I think the guy was referring to 2023 as "last year" when he got in with four points.

I've never looked at the odds in that area.

How did you get a unit 30 tag with less than max points? What are you calling giant? There’s rarely a bull over 340 killed in that unit (still a great bull )
Random tag. I believe there were two issued in 2023 and I was one of the lucky recipients who got one with only one point. Truly blessed.

Two hunters before me that year scored in the 360's, and one in the 380's. Sorry if 340 is not a giant for most of you, but for an average hunter like myself, they're massive.

Thanks for the clarification. When you said last year I was assuming 2024. My bad. Congrats on pulling the random! Fun unit to stomp around in.

I find it interesting you called 320 bulls decent but a 340 giant? But one thing I can promise is you there wasn’t two 360s and 1 380 killed out of 30. There hasn’t been a B&C bull killed out of there in over 25+ years, if ever? Sure would like to see pics of them. Because the outfitters website doesn’t have them.

A true 340 bull in unit 30 is a giant for the unit and very rare. A couple killed a year. A true official 350 is something once every few years. It’s a fun unit. Spent 1000s of days there, but I wouldn’t put it in the top 10 units for max points. Very easy access so unless you’re mobility impaired or have special ties to that specific area I would suggest look elsewhere.
