Iam in the market for a spotting scope and the new Maven CS.1 looks interesting.Has anyone had any experience with the new spotting scope? Also what would you consider the best glass under $2000? thanks

I have Vortex Razor glass. Not the best but gets the job done.

I’m in this thread to follow too. I’m very interested in the CS.1 as the range is perfect - including the weight. The Maven video a few weeks back said Polymer frame but the website says Magnesium/Aluminum. I’m still waiting for a response from Maven to clarify.

I read on another forum that it is a mag/aluminum body

Squirrely - for some reason I’m very excited about this optic. It was this or the Athlon Ares.

I think for the price it cant be beaten. I have the Maven C1 Bino's and they are great for the money. Hopefully we get some positive feedback on the new spotting scope.

I would consider the best spotting scope glass under $2,000 to be the Meopta S2. It is a proven scope, so you don't have to wonder what you're getting. There's one for sale right now in the classifieds for $1650. Hard to beat for that price, IMO. And yes, I own one. After participating in a side by side spotting scope comparison a few years ago and then using my friend's S2 in the field, I had to get one for myself.

Good luck with your search. That Maven might very well be a fine scope. I'd like to see one next to a Meopta S2 in the field for comparison.

Maven emailed - they clarified that it’s a mag aluminum frame.

Having just stumbled upon these before xmas, i really wish I would have bought this instead of the Vortex 11-33x50mm razor, would have saved myself some money.

Any update on this? I picked up a set of their binos, and I'm thoroughly impressed with them.

I'm looking at picking one of these up for a 3-4 day camping trip/scouting later this summer before season kicks off.

I also picked up some of their B2’s. I ended up buying the CS1 then selling it for the Athlon ares. The Athlon was better to my eyes. But I ended up selling it for a Kowa 77 which is in another league. The fellas on here had the right advice all along. Buy the best glass you can and don’t look back. Been extremely happy with the B2’s and the Kowa.

I had the athlon ares for a season and picked up a CS1 to compare and my eyes couldn't tell a difference. Ended up keeping the Maven because it is 8oz lighter, but had no complaints about the ares at all.

Anyone have an opinion on Razor HD glass vs Swaro non HD glass vs Maven glass? I have a feeling I know the answer, but I’d like feedback if someone has compared some of these side by side.

Not a direct comparison, but I had the Ares (65mm) and the Razor Gen 1 (65mm)at the same time. I kept the Ares (Cabelas Krotos) as I felt it delivered a sharper image and was more compact and lighter. Optically they were very close, but the edge went to the Ares. Seems I remember thinking the Razor may have been ever slightly more "bright" but the Ares was sharper and easier to look through and resolve the image.

I now own the Maven and will say I cannot tell a difference between it and the Ares. Maven is a little bit more compact and a few oz lighter. I probably prefer the colors in the Ares, but the view is extremely similar.

Hope that this helps a little bit.

My "new to me" Kowa 774 is AWESOME by the way, but I had to have a sturdier tripod to really notice that difference. The Maven and Athlon were small enough and light enough that a lighter tripod seemed to do ok.
