Mauser 25 (New straight pull)

They even advertise left handed models! The R8s are mind blowing to me as I recently started looking into them. But damn if theyre not expensive. Hopefully this is a valid alternative.

It’s a different alternative. (There are many others).

Quickly, it’s:

Not a takedown, switch barrel rifle.
Standard safety, not a decocker.
Standard magazine.

The lock up seems along the lines of the Strasser radial element bolt design. Very strong design with the Strasser. Whereas the trend had swayed to rotating locking lugs with many of the Blaser “copycats”, which seems to require a bit more effort in use. On video, the bolt even seems to effortlessly glide like Strasser’s, which is the quickest I’ve experienced, but it seemingly has the advantage of being shorter like Blaser’s (and some look alikes), so less intrusive to one’s face during cycling.

They are advertising weights that are more manageable than many of the other straight-pull designs. For example Lynx cut a pound of their flag bearer in 2022 and achieved a still seven and three quarter pound rifle. There are few lightweight straight pulls, but they are not the norm.

The price point is amazing in this engineering style. There aren’t any luxuriously appointed models. They are saying this is a rifle, not a status symbol. Probably why marketing has selected the somewhat odd campaign photos everyone is discussing. If they are good, this will immensely undercut business in this sector.

I've been looking to jump from my Tikka's to a Sako. But I also have a M18 that I've been very happy with. Decided to poke around Mauser's (and Sauer) website and came across these. Very intrigued! I have no need for another 308, but I may try one nonetheless. The price point is fantastic. They look like shooters too (if the YouTube reviews are anything to go by). I'm curious how long it'll take to introduce other calibers. I'd be very interested in a 223, but would settle with the 243 if that's the smallest offering.

Kevin says Q4ish - I'll have them on the site with pricing probably by mid Q3

Thanks
Jake
If you get the chance can you inquire about future calibers and availability? I may just spring for the 308 but I'm curious and can't find anything other than "soon".

I really hope they have long coal mags set up to take advantage of the extended freebores of today's modern cartridges. Just asking for their 308/65cm mags be able to take a 2.95+ coal. 65prc is 3.085 ish touching lands with a 156. Yet saami has pinned max coal at 2.95". Just wishing out loud here.......
