Looking for guidance on mounting a scope on an old 30-30. I've been researching for weeks and can't find a rifle drilled and tapped like this. Most have two rings on the receiver. This is setup has the rings forward with only one ring of the receiver. There was an old fixed power scope with a longer tube that I upgraded to a newer scope but the scope sits too far forward.

Does anyone know of a rail system or a longer tube scope that will work with this setup?

Looks like an old waffle top that someone drilled and tapped for those bases. Since it’s already been drilled, I think the collector value is already reduced.

I would consider having it drilled and tapped for a modern scope base of your choice. I prefer one from Ranger Point Precision.

I second this. I’d try and find screw plugs for those holes

What was the scope that was on it? If it was a Unertl or something, it may be a better option to sell the whole deal as a setup and replace it. Of course, I’m making a big assumption that it doesn’t hold sentimental value with you.

If it does, and you’re set on mounting a modern scope, it’ll need to be drilled and tapped.

It's my father's. I think it was family friend's gun he was gifted as a kid. The waffle top was already drilled and tapped before he got it. I agree the collector value of the gun is essentially gone but it will stay in the family for what's it worth. Open sights aren't an option for his eyes right now so I will look into a local gun smith. Thanks.
