Mandatory Military Service

There are plenty of jobs that are not “combat” but most have to be done in a combat zone. Maybe the dentist stay out of harms way for the most part but the mechanics are out fixing things in the field. Guess it depends on the time and the branch and the current war situation.

I dont like mandatory service or the draft.
As a former Marine, I want volunteers next to me. Its a life they chose not forced into.
Im not say all who were drafted in wars like Vietnam didnt fight valiantly, alot did but I just dont believe in today's tech that we need it

I did 32 years. What I will say is doing a 4 year stint is like winning the lottery.
Home loans, free medical care, disability gets you resident fees for hunting OOS, etc etc.
I’m a firm believer, signing up after HS is the smartest thing anyone can do. Freaking magic. GI Bill to pay for college and housing.
Literally, 4 years of grunt work to have the rest of your life on easy street.

Everyone wants the job they can retire and hunt non stop. After 32 years in the service I retired at 50 and make 100k a year in pension. Hunt every single day I want. Just suck it up and do it. If you want to retire at 62 and hope. This ain’t the job for you.
Youngsters, this is living the dream.

What branch and MOS did you serve? 32 years is the long road. Were you the crusty warrant officer?

Not everyone goes officer and goes for 32. Thanks for your service though.
Hell, not many enlisted make it that long.

Did we lose Iran? Our objective was nuclear and they won't get one at this point. It wasn't about regime change, since that isn't humanly possible. We knocked out most of their standard military. I wish we would have focused on the IRGC more but they didnt consult me.
I also wish we would have done more to empower the people

Did we really lose? We could have removed that country off the face of the earth if that was our goal

I’ve waited a long time to talk shit to a man your rank. You ready for this, pappy? Don’t lie. Did you serve under Stormin’ Norman? 😂

I have a CSM’s name tattooed on my hand as a reminder of how precious life is. The man did over 30 years in the infantry and was KIA on his last deployment. Dude was a role model to my delinquent ass and I think of him often.

32 is a heck of a run. I just did my 5. Most guys retiring had broken bodies and that turned me off of the idea of staying another 15,
