Man Drops Gun and Runs from Polar Bear

Looks like he shot at it once before it charged him. I’m going to add “polar bears” to the .223 thread

well... he got away so maybe running was the right idea but i think i would have held onto the gun so that i could take the bear with me if he caught me

Looks like he had a choice between sling the rifle and start the snomobile or drop the rifle and start the snowmobile. Dropping it saved him that extra 1/2 second to get away. The thing about shooting a bear up close is they can be fatally wounded and still tear your head off and stuff it up your butt before they die. Since he successfully escaped, who are we to question his technique…

Fascinating footage. I watched a couple of different clips the last couple of days of that. Didn’t realize that he had actually fired a round from that rifle/shotgun? early on at the Polar bear and it didn’t blink. Fortunately, the sled was still running when he jumped on it. Scary stuff. Such an interesting spot in Norway and coal mined by Russia. Some other prior clips stated and showed that tourists cannot go outside unless accompanied by an armed guide. The guides were all armed with shotguns. Feel comfortable w/my 10mm chest holstered against most predators but the PB stuff is crazy!

The bear hesitated for a second when he fired up the snow machine, otherwise I think the bear could have got him. He'll have a story to tell for the rest of his life.

The comments in the YouTube video are ruthless. First one, "guy must have been French, first thing he did was drop the rifle". 🤣
