I have unsuccessfully been trying to find hare in the Midcoast Maine public lands. Does any one have any suggestions or are there no hare in this part of the state?

You looking for snowshoes? I'm not sure where in Maine you find em - we used to shoot a bit in the NE corner of VT. Should be plenty in ME though. You might need to head north.

You got any snow? Go find the tracks. A Snow shoe is a big rabbit - not gonna be like cottontail tracks. The rears will be close to 6 inches long and 2 inches wide. They like tight young pines and swamp edges. You get a mix if that and might be golden.

Go on a fresh snow and find some tracks - follow em until you find the maker. They don't go too far but you can track em 1/2 mile or more. That was my favorite. They'll usually be sitting under a pin bough watching you when you see em.

If you can't find tracks, put a few miles on your vehicle until you do.
