Magview vs ollin

I don’t love the need to have the specific Ollin case on the phone, but like the way it automatically centers the lens. Those that use the Magview, how much of a PITA is it when going on and off the adapter and finding the center again?

Any other pros and cons between the two that y’all have feedback on from using both?

It is a skill set to align it. I'd say 50% of the time, I have to try a 2nd time. Other than that, I love my MV system for use across multiple optics and that it is always on my phone case, unnoticed.

But Ollin definitely wins the indexing game

I don't find the centering of the magview to be much of an issue. The magview app has a dot in the middle of the screen that you can align with your optic as you attach it. I would guess 8 out of 10 times I get it first try. The other 2 out of 10 times takes another second or two of sliding the phone and its locked in.

Following. I just ordered a new phone and will be switching from Phoneskope to one of these. I'm leaning Ollin because that's what my buddy's use.

I really like the MV, like West said above its pretty easy to align after you use it a few times.

Tired both, sold the Ollin and kept the MagView and here's why
-$175 for Ollin and then another $40 every time you change phone models
-Ollin phone case too bulky & uncomfortable to keep on 24/7/365 and I'm not dealing with changing phones cases throughout the year
- MagView system is on Guidefitter for a severely discounted price
-Plate that goes on your phone for MagView will go undetected all year so your always ready to attach phone to spotter without looking for that dumb case
-Ollin is %100 easier for indexing but after using the MagView for a couple hunts it becomes 2nd nature

Love my magview. Use the app and put the little box in the middle of the eyepiece. I’m about 75% on first try.

After spending a decent amount of time behind both setups now. I’m still leaning Ollin. On the I phone 13 at least, the case isn’t anything excessive to leave on all hunting season. And the fast indexing and less abrupt “slap” onto the optic are nice.

Benefits to the magview is that you use whatever case you want, and the eyepiece cover can never get lost since it stay attached at all times.

Magview is weirder to actually glass behind when you’re not digiscoping.

I honestly don’t think you’d hate either one. If I HAD to use the mag view, I would be content. But given the choice, I like the Ollin.

My son and I both use the MV. He 3D printed a piece that goes on the phone case with two sided tape that makes indexing 100% every time. Just got back from a New Mexico elk hunt and it worked flawlessly. I started using the Phone Skope app last year when MV had so much trouble with updating their app and I've ended up staying with it.

Is he able to print more of those?

I have the Kapture digiscoping setup enroute and will try to get a review posted once I’ve spent some time with it. This seems like a new and innovative system that is worth a look.

Same here, I think it is going to be a game changer.

I am a few days into using the Ollin and I am loving the setup. I'm coming from an older Scopecam setup which was always a bit fiddly to get set on perfectly. I really enjoy being able to basically throw my phone at my spotter and having a perfect alignment.

The only bummers are that the case doesn't work with wireless charging and blocks the wide angle lens on my iPhone 13.

I have used both for a season and used phoneskope before that. Hated the magview, not as easy to get it lined up as everyone says. At least when I was running it on my binos. Spotting scope may be a different story.

Switched to Ollin this year and love it. Highly recommend. For reference have been running it on a swaro ATC spotting scope this year

Any issues with the Ollin, or either losing it’s ability to use GPS direction pointing features with the magnetic case adapter options?

I have not noticed any issues. Remember, the magnet is on the optic for the MagView, not on the phone case. Since I’m not using the compass and the optic at the same time, it has not been an issue.
