New to the whole archery gig. Going to do some turkey hunting this season. NorCal. I did a bit a looking and decided on the Magnus Bullhead as the head I wanted to try. Now my question is the 125grain or 100grain. I shoot a 100 field point on my GoldTip Hunter 340's with 3 Blazers. From what I researched, seems that the 125 Bullhead (more cutting area) might be the ticket, but I am just not sure if:
  1. Just get 100 Bullheads and use my current arrows
  2. Get new arrows (4 vane 300's or so) and full length, and use the 100
  3. Get a new setup and use the 125's
Again, I am completely new to this, and want to have a setup that will work well with my setup: Hoyt Powermax, 27.5" draw, ~63#

Thx,

Phil

Get the 125s and the victory arrows designed for bullheads. May want to buy quiver adapters while you’re buying. I shoot 100gr for everything else out of a 64lb bow and the 125s didn’t change my poi much. They just shoot a little low.

You can’t build full length .300 arrows and four fletch them with feathers for much cheaper than you can get them finished from Magnus.

I’d go with their system. 125 grain bullheads x2 packs, 3 arrows and quiver adapters

Turn your bow down. They’ll tune fine even at 70+ pounds but it’s unnecessary and it’s harder to tune. 55 pounds was the sweetspot when I shot bullheads.

FWIW, I now turkey hunt with grim reaper whitetail specials. It’s just way easier to screw a mech on my whitetail set up than spend time tuning a bow just to shoot turkeys. Big mechs put in the boiler room kill turkeys just as dead as bullheads.

Thanks for the info. I have my Hoyt Powermax at about 63#, and went with the Maguns setup (got 3 of them). I figure they are a decent setup, and it is more likely that I will miss because of skill, not bow tune :)

Was also going to suggest the magnus setup and 125 grains. I've killed many turkeys with the setup. Its awesome watching them drop right where they stand, and I actually find the head easier to hit than their vitals.

Not sure if you've seen the videos online, but the best way to target practice with them (or confirm same POI as your other arrows) is to shoot a hanging pillow.
