not sure of the sporter as this is first time seeing it. will vouch for the regular unit tho. mine works great on all my rifles ar 15 ar 10 and all the other sporter and varmint contour barrels . love the sd card that records all info then direct onto excel. even this old computer dummy had no trouble and a mac to boot. still need my pact unit for pistols and bow. so if doing all with one unit the sky screen units are still the way to go. would not be afraid to give it the 30 day trial
I was looking for a report on these from the show, but didn't see anything. From my understanding it is a simplified version of the v3. It can not be used on suppressed rifles. There is a pre buy on snipers hide. I would like to hear more about the v1 as well. Hopefully, Sam or somebody knows something.
Send stid2677 a message. He has been using one with his loading and seems very happy with it. Pretty sure he left some feedback here if I remember right.
You can buy them "pre-release" from Magnetospeed.com right now. They are offering a rebate of $40 on the Sporter and $10 on the XFR ($50 for the package) if you buy from them. Good deal. http://www.magnetospeed.com/collections/frontpage
They also released a new device called the XFR which connects to a smartphone so you can basically use your smartphone as the display. Nice for the Sporter which has just a single line display and a single button to cycle through things.
Well I called and talked to a guy at MagnetoSpeed, sorry I can't remember his name. Did find out they had some units ready to ship. Ordered the Sportsman with XFR, only drawback is the IPhone app isn't available just yet. I'll be letting you know what I think in the coming weeks. Thanks for the responses.

Wow, they are on the ball, ordered Fri and here on Monday. If the weather/wind isn't crappy tomorrow I'll take it for a spin and let you know what I think.
Found the hardest thing is getting the correct shim placement for each barrel. I used a stainless steel cleaning rod inserted in the bore for a guide. Found out quick that a couple of my cleaning rods were stainless in color but would still be attracted to the powerfull magnet in the unit. A brass or aluminum or even a wooden dowel would be the ticket. Still before shooting , looking down the bore is good advice to prevent shooing the unit.the included plastic guide is how close the unit must be to the bore to get a reading and being further away will result in no reading. Just trial and error picking the shims. Once you get the correct combo, make a note for future reference. Hope this makes sense, being patient , something i lack is a plus.have never had mine shoot loose but stll check it every few shots.
The Sporter worked great although I didn't have anything else to compare the results with. I was shooting a stock Savage Varmint Hunter in 260 Rem. Setup was easy, I did like Swampfox and used a cleaning rod to set the shim correctly. I wrapped a heavy rubber band under the front of the shim to get the sensors alligned parallel with the bore. The strapping system worked perfectly, shot 30 rounds and the unit didn't budge once set. View attachment 22995 View attachment 22994
The first couple shots didn't register, I had to reset the sensitivity to high to get it to read. The sensors were maybe 3/4" below the line of the bore. It may need to be set closer to get reading on lower sensitivity settings. After resetting all shots read perfectly. The display was easy to read and even somebody un-techy as myself can figure it out. View attachment 22996
The center of impact was certainly off being a foot high and foot left. After I got it back on paper all three loads I was testing shot pretty decent. Here is the 26 shot 2"ish group. View attachment 22997
All in all I was very satisfied with the Magnetospeed Sporter. I did get the XFR pkg but will have to wait till Apple decides to add the App to thier App Store before I can see how that works.
Hope this helps some of you guys out that are thinking of one of these units.
Talked to cs about xfr for my v3. It will be a go for the ipad once apple gives the blessing. Will require a software update using the sd card on the v3 also talked of uploads to the ipad using the earbud outlet on the ipad? Also talked about the picatany rail adaptor allowing some handguns to use the magneto. Also see a set of tapered shims, something needed. Good to see a progressive American company.
