Luekotape, how to pack small amount

How does everyone pack leukotape, other than packing the whole roll? I was thinking of peeling off a bit and wrapping it around something round like a piece of pencil or something, but I'm not sure of that will affect its "stickabilty". Thanks

I pack the entire roll, think I read or heard not to try and remove it until used.

I peeled some off and wrapped it around my Chapstick. Seemed to still work fine.

I just roll it back on it self with nothing in the middle. Seems very sticky still.

I wrapped some around a lighter.

Didn't use any last year but it goes back in the pack just in case it's needed.

Could also do as I have done with duct tape. Take an old Bic (or whatever) cheap pen and take out the guts. Wrap the tape around the tube for the desired length. Then just cut the tube down as necessary. Tube can also be used to store stuff like cotton, matches, etc.

I wrap it around one of my tracking poles right below the handle. I also wrap the other pole with a little duct tape.

I found that the glue appears to be air activated. the yard of tape I wrapped around a pen was a PITA to get off the pen and then lost a portion of its sticktion on my foot. The reapply tape did not stick nearly as well as the fresh stuff. could be due to many factors. I do know that after a year the short piece of tape on the pen would not come off its self and I had to toss it.

You can also wrap it or duct tape around your Nalgene bottle.

Just got some this year and tested it this summer - great stuff. I just plan to wrap it around my foot...on the spots that always show up - then I'm good to go from day 1. I do agree that it would appear to lose some of it's longevity once it's removed from original roll...

Use release paper (The backside paper used with stickers) to store strips of it.

I was just thinking about this yesterday and also heard it loses some stickiness when unrolled. Here's what I'm planning to do: use a razor to slice through a 14 inch of the role, then peal off that whole 1/4 inch in one chunk to take on the hike in. Then I'll have several strips that are 4-5 inches in length that are "fresh" when I take them off the chunk in the field. I think it will work and won't have to carry the whole roll. I'm becoming a bit of an ounce counter these days
