I have much of the flat range figured out. Shoot often. Not terribly earth shattering, but chose my rifle/ammo combo for this weeks adventure. Got first round hits at 539, 579, 618 and back to back hits at 1014 yards. Put the rifle away and have lots of ammo built from same components.

What I DON"T have in all my years is a ton of Angle shooting. I have two LRFs. Leica 1600B which has been my main LRF for years. And backup Leupold 5. They provide DIFFERENT yardages when factoring in angles. Sometimes varying by quite a bit.

EX: Leica 634 yards. Will flash a "shoot for" 579 for instance. The Leupold may flash a shoot for of 609.

I can do the math and tweak the Aps and in the above hypothetical, maybe the difference is only .5 MOA. But obviously the more extreme distance and extreme angles....the Fudge Factor will be more.

I run Ballistic AE. I can place the iPhone on my turret and allow the Ap to calculate the angle/correction also. Which adds a 3rd method. And I don't feel any of the 3 methods would yield data more than 10% consistent with the other.

Thoughts on best or better methods? I trust the Leica the most.

Don't need an "ethical Long Range" thread. I don't think I would attempt over 600 yards on game even in perfect conditions. But my hunt has the potential to have much more extreme angle shooting than other hunts I've done over the years.

NC Montana is pretty flat!

Curious about this as I had to adjust .4 mils recently for what I THOUGHT was not much of an angle. Sticking around to learn something

Call Phil Mendoza and ask him how many arrows he sailed over a ram one year before it was realized Leica's rangefinders suck at calculating angle.

Find the tallest building that you can get a clear line of sight to at 100 yards, and test your rangefinder. If you stand at the same horizontal distance and walk your measuring points up the building you should be able to toggle between angle with LOS distance, and calculated distance.

If the Pythagorean theorum doesn't math out with the former, AND the latter isn't correct as is, you will know an issue will come up at some point.

I use a slant angle firing chart, use my phone to get the degree of angle I need. I try to stay as simple as I can.
Please share if there is a link or website. I am already not happy I have to depend on technology by carrying the phone. I am still verify, print it out and tape it to the stock. If I can have a printed chart it may help

I missed a high angle shot last year and felt everything was good. I went back and read the manual for my rangefinder and didn’t realize they only recommended using the internal calc for low angles. I use 4DOF on anything over about 15 degrees now with LOS in the LRF.

Entering into the Way Back machine.....NF and a handful of others had a cosign indicator you could bolt onto the action/rings. Had to do some math.

Like other things...maybe old school isn't bad school?
