Well, I might visit that option when powder becomes available. I’m hoping to have this done and give him time to get some rounds out of it before season. That’s definitely impressive for a bullet that size

Yep, that’s faster than I anticipated! Maybe I should qualify my pro 215 stance with “if you’re using h1000”. I haven’t spent any time with viht powders but haven’t had great luck with rl 26 or 33 so I tend to lean slower and steady with Hodgdon. Do have some 570 and a WM sitting around that might need some experimenting.

I ordered some 245’s just in case 26 or 570 magically appear. If I’m being honest, my buddy is a freak and could probably track it,run it down and stab it to death with a sharp stick,but just in case there’s a legality somewhere prohibiting this, I’ll get his gun ready

I ran the numbers before and the 245 @2825 fps beats out the 215 @3000 fps in wind drift and energy @1000 yards. That’s why I figured I would try the 245. I’ve seen multiple posts of guys getting over 2900 with it even in hornady brass in a 26” barrel.

But @wind gypsy is probably right. 215s are hard to beat. My wife shot this bull at 1165 with a 215 doing 2820. Shot clean through the bull and left a baseball-sized exit hole.

Ryan, did you do a write-up on that hunt? If so, I've probably read it, but I'd be interested to get more info on what rifle/load Tanya was shooting, impact velocity, shot placement, etc.

I've been shooting 215s for a while now, and you can't ever have too much info on real world terminal performance.

I was reading about the 245’s and it says they’re less sensitive to bullet seating depth and wondering if the normal 20 thousands is a good starting point. Berger has a 3.7.7 coal but not sure what the rifle they used was chambered for. I also noticed that the 245 is advertised as a hunting bullet and the 215’s are target? Am I missing something?

You are correct in your bullet designations. The 215 has a bonafide pedigree as a hunting bullet and more reason to trust in its performance than a number of bullets Berger markets as hunting bullets.

I am going to try LRT, N570, and shot a couple already with RL 26. I think 26 might be a little fast for the 245 though. 570 has been showing up a lot lately. Just have to keep an eye out.

I have also seen solid reports with RL 33 with the 245.

I’ve got some lrt, I’m guessing by the burn rate and being spherical it should be a pretty good powder for speed with the heavier bullets. Might be a bit more temp sensitive. Im leaning now towards the 245’s. I’ll keep my eyes out for some 570. Thanks very much for all the inputs again

My RBros 300PRC eats 212 and 225 with reckless aplomb.

Havent tried the 215 yet but I have no doubt of its abilities.

Was pulling some 208’s and 225’s from a leftover ladder test on a 300 weatherby this am, quite a bit of difference in jacket toughness. The 208’s are a lot tougher. 245’s should show up next week and I’m watching for N570. I’m in western Washington so might go east side to work them up for closer to Utah conditions. Since the PRC is pretty much a ballistic twin of the 300 Win Mag. The 215 Berger will be hard to beat for external ballistics as well as terminal performance. The 215 is a proven elk killer at all distances 1200 and in for us. Past that we go .338.

Shoot, I can’t remember and I deleted the email confirmation. It was a site that popped up as having some and I ordered 8 pds = $330 after fees. I haven’t had a chance to load any yet. Berger gave me load data for it with the 245’s.They say it tops out a little over 2800 with 100% case fill at 3.7 coal. I’ve heard a lot of good things about the powder and hoping to get some time with it.

I don’t know if this is helpful been messing with 2 loads:

215 hybrids ADG brass h-1000 and fed215 gmm primers- 75.5 gets me to 3k super easy no pressure and great accuracy. My dad killed a bull with a frontal shot at 350, bullet traveled the length of the bull and came out the left hip. I’ve seen a dozen animals die with 215’s and h1k, great combo.

230 Atips adg brass n565 fed 215 gmm
77.5 grains gets me 2975 and good accuracy. Built this load for an ELR match and got hits at a mile.

my rifle is a bighorn SR3 with a 26’ 1:8 proof. I also had my rifle chambered with a .050 shorter neck than SAMMI, I think this really helps with velocity
