30 cal and larger does very well in Ak; moose hunts turn into bear hunts frequently. My best bullet experiences over 32 seasons have been with factory and reloaded Barnes, but I have not shot Brown bears or Moose over 325 with them for a multitude of reasons. Say what you will about Barnes, they are very accurate in my rifles; 30-06 and .338WM, they hold their weight and penetrate deep. I used to shoot Caribou and Black bears out to 500 plus but not getting those opportunities these days. Both of those animals are much easier to punch through compared to Moose. Most guys limit shots on Moose to 300 ish, partly so they can identify brow tines and judge width on the racks, but moose are heavy boned and muscled and really smash bullets to bits. It takes a good bit of energy to plow through and get to the vitals on angled shots and any shedding of bullet mass affects penetration significantly. Don't count on a perfectly positioned, unobstructed moose standing broad side. Many, many times I've had to move closer to thread a shot through brush at a bull that would not leave his honey hole. It's not typically difficult to move within 75-150 yds of a bull, and you may call them closer if they are close to the rut.
