Red dots and LVPOs have a place for a particular style of hunting the same as higher magnification optice do. We shouldn't be down on someone's choice just because it isn't ours.

Red dots are handy to carry and quick to use, but they're too limiting for general-purpose hunting. Seeing your target (not aiming point) is almost impossible in low light. No magnification makes IDing hard in perfect light.

LPVOs are better, but I don't care for the weight or have a need for true 1X. To me, a 2-7X or 3-9X is almost as good really close up, way better at distance, and works just fine at first and last light. The fact that they weigh and cost less is an added bonus.

For a bolt-action .308, Trijicon's AccuPoint 3-9X is hard to beat, though I do have a soft spot for Japanese made Weaver fixed 4X scopes. They're dinky and work great for 95% of my hunting.
