Lowa Camino Rand Question

This is first pair of high end boots I have owned. I have owned these for just about 10 months and noticed the rand seems to be pulling up slightly.

Worse these for my elk hunt in Idaho and have worn for most of my training. Always stored in bedroom closet and treated with only Lowa products.

I love the boots but I wonder if this is going to turn into a bigger issue and cause bigger trouble.

Any insight?

Get some Freesole SR and fix them up. Lowa doesn’t have the best rand. I’ve had to fix it on every pair I’ve owned.

Mine are doing the same thing. I haven’t given it much thought but maybe I should do some proactive repairs

Check with the warranty department with LOWA. I know in Canada they have a 1 year warranty from date of purchase and with something like this you might be able to get LOWA to repair or replace if its a manufacturers warranty.

If its not, I've used shoe goo on my 5 year old LOWA Ticams and that has worked really well and has held up for over a year after the initial application

I have the Caminos and they aren't having any rand issues yet. I would definitely go with Kotaman's recommendation on the Freesole Shoe & Boot Repair. Anything by Gear Aid / McNett is first class stuff in my book.

Every pair of Lowa boots I have ever owned has had a rand issue. I was pretty cranky with Lathorp & Sons on my last pair and here is the recommendation they made for my new, unworn pair - take a piece of sandpaper and rough up the leather starting about one-quarter inch above the rand on down to the rand/leather joint. Then coat that seam with Flex Seal. I have not done this yet, so I am unable to comment on the result. Good luck.

Lowa took them back for warranty “review”. Waiting to see if I get those boots or new ones back.

If you run into trouble again, I put a bead of 3M 5200 around the rand of my Caminos. Seems to be doing the trick so far.

Wore them for hiking yesterday and for first time in my 10 months of owning them they leaked.

Did no water crossings or anything. Simply hiking in Michigan snow.

All packed up and ready to go out tomorrow for “warranty review”.

May need to grab another decent pair and test them out Incase Lowas aren’t replaced under warranty or new ones have same issue!

Update: they did inform me they had the wrong customer and would get back to me about my return.

As a total side note... I made a new rand for some Asolos I picked up cheap this weekend.

Figured these would be good as a backup and pair to train in. Also wanted to test using 5200 on something before putting it on a new pair of boots.

Easy to use!

Update from Lowa.

They replied with a very confusing email saying that they tested the waterproofing on my boots and despite me arguing with a manager (never happened) they said they tested water proofing again and it passed so my boots are coming back to me.

I replied thanking them for 50% coupon but asked them to review the case again because I only sent my boots in for rand issues at Lowas request and have not spoken or argued with anyone about waterproofing.

I wasn’t even complaining about waterproofing!

Kind of embarrassing on their end but we will see what they come back with.

Updated me now and said they did send me some new boots. Pretty happy with that.
Also said I could keep the 50% off coupon for my troubles.

Gonna freesole the rand as soon as I get the new boots.

I've got a pair of size 13 Caminos in the classifieds if anyone needs a pair. Don't fit my feet nearly as well as Zamberlans do.
