Love Thy Neighbor

Yesterday, the President of the Church of Jesus Christ shared these words and with today’s events they have been echoing in my mind.

This is what he said yesterday celebrating his 101st birthday:

"Love your neighbor and treat them with compassion and respect. A century of experience has taught me this with certainty: anger never persuades, hostility never heals, and contention never leads to lasting solutions. Too much of today’s public discourse, especially online, fosters enmity instead of empathy.

Imagine how different our world could be if more of us were peacemakers—building bridges of understanding rather than walls of prejudice—especially with those who may see the world differently than we do. I have seen bitter divisions soften when neighbors chose to listen to one another with respect rather than suspicion. Even small acts—like reaching out across lines of faith, culture, or politics—can open doors to healing. There is power in affording others the human dignity that all of God’s children deserve."

By no means do I want to start a political or religious discussion. All that aside those principles are beautiful to me and if put into practice can create a better humanity for tomorrow. I needed this reminder and know there is always room to do better. If you read this I hope there’s an opportunity soon for you to serve someone or make them feel loved or appreciated. I know I certainly need to seek them out at a time like this.

Wishing you all peace,

-Jared

Great post! Thanks for sharing it. I’m definitely struggling with being angry right now after what happened yesterday.

Perhaps provide a different food source for the fox to protect the chickens. Idk.

I get and generally agree with the OP but if a fox keeps killing your chickens, do you just keep buying more chickens or deal with the problem? More and more people are getting tired of buying more chickens.
I totally understand where you’re coming from. I too hope for swift justice and believe in that. But I felt like sharing this more so because I think when applied could help things like this become less common. And at the very least provide a sense of peace for myself internally amongst turmoil.

A son, husband, and a father will never get to honor anyone in his family with his presence again.
Only hate and evil can willing take that away from people. Do not go down that thought process of wishing harm, or worse on anyone else, you'll only amplify that negativity.
Between yesterday, and if your old enough to remember 24 years ago today, everyone needs to pray and stay positive.
Peace be with you all!

A friend told me this. A snake is a snake. Just always remember where the head is at. You're dealing with a fox killing your chickens. We bury the chicken wire along the bottom in a ditch and then outward. I'd at least set up a live trap.
Do you have chicken feed that could attract mice ? Fox loves mices. You have chickens and live where foxes live. We keep feed in plastic garbage cans with snap on lids.. You can get rid of this fox but not the problem. Dogs will probably be an issue. We try n fortify the pen and use concrete reinforcement wire around them. Big dogs will tear livestock fence apart. For us we need to be concerned about bears too. And we have a little silver fox in the neighborhood, probably more interested in the neighborhood cats.
Hey, you're not the first to loose livestock. It happens. And a bit of fortifying the pens will help a lot

Wait, weren't those analogies?

I probably watched a clip from kirk everyday for the last couple years. I am the same age with 3 kids as well. We don't get much coverage of this in CAD

This is why the church has been dying for 100 years. Too weak and too feminine. Jesus didn't tolerate evil and neither should we.
I share absolutely nothing in common with these demons who are actively targeting our children with violence, killing the peacemakers in the public square, and desire horrible things for my family because we dare be white, practice traditional values, and deny them access to our children. Whether they're active in this, actively stoking the war with their rhetoric, or quietly supporting it, I'm done making a distinction. These people are not my neighbors. For my neighbors I'll walk through hell to protect your family and I expect reciprocity.
Tolerance at all costs is what has gotten us into this situation. I'm done tolerating evil.

The Old Testament.....an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth. I want to see that death penalty be an actual death penalty and in every state for a murder. Two expedient trials and if found guilty, just as expedient of the death sentence being carried out. No more sitting in prison for 20+ years draining the taxpayer. The prospect of being in that chair or getting the needle in quick fashion will change a lot of evil minds.

It won’t change minds. It might make some people feel better.

The Old Testament was superseded by Jesus’s new covenant.

It would make our streets safer for our Wifes and our Children.

He didn't supersede it, he fulfilled it.

Matthew 5:17–18 (Sermon on the Mount: Fulfilling the Law)

Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. For truly I tell you, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished.

President Nelson has stated in the past when talking about being a peacemaker that he is not talking about peace at any price. There is a time for justice and defending oneself. Peacemaking should generally be the first avenue to resolve conflict. That’s different than indulging criminals, at least in my mind.

I absolutely agree and understand that. I did not mean to direct to any specific criminal or anything. More so in a much more general sense to humanity as a whole and our interactions with those around us. Swift justice certainly has its time and place and always has.
