Lost

I was still in the field when my horns were prepped and shipped. I had questioned that to myself maybe duct tape one to the horns, one rolled in the cape , hard to do anything with the meat it was shipped directly to the processor.

Good to hear. Mind sharing which shipping company/location that let it sit in the corner and not call anyone for 6 months? I had AK Air Cargo in Bethel lose some expensive gear. Had Everts in Bethel also make a big mistake. Just curious for another data point.

I have a pile of air tags and attached one to antlers this year. Put it in a ziploc and taped it to the base with lime green tape that said “do not remove.” Air tags are good enough, but rely on someone with “find my I phone” on close enough to ping it. My antlers went from Anchorage to Portland and didn’t ping for 8 days in between. I have a couple real time GPS tags I’m going to put in my vehicles to try out.

This story makes me want to just drive to alaska to avoid all of this when I finally do a moose hunt (hopefully 3 years from now). It's a 3 day drive from Washington, sounds like after transport fees and this headache it would be worth it.

It was with Alaska cargo in Bethel. I had told him I wanted my packages sent to Kansas City. They looked and did not see a terminal in Kansas so they sent it to St. Louis. I caught that they had done this with my moose cape and I had them corrected and send it from St. Louis. Then it goes back to Seattle and then onto Kansas City. They never showed more than one package labeled as Moose Hyde. I haven’t had them look to see if something else had shipped from Bethel to St. Louis or Kansas City in that three day window and they said there was not multiple times over the past six months talking to multiple different people with Alaska cargo.

It seems like they split my package from one unit of a moose cape and horns into two units and did not enter the second unit, which is my moose horns into the computer system. So no matter how many times we called and how many people I talked to it never showed up in the system. Renfros finally found someone who would listen and went back and took the time to look through those three days worth of hardcopies in there, it was my second package.

This was my fifth time shipping gear back-and-forth to Alaska and the other members of my hunting groups have used my number also and this is the first time we’ve had a problem. I will continue to use them in the future, but I will add AirTags or the new ones that don’t require the Apple phone connection.

They offered to ship them from St. Louis back to Seattle and then to Kansas City as they do not have a Kansas City to St. Louis cargo flight. I told him I would just drive up and get them. It’s a 4 1/2 texting and driving our trip each way to St. Louis versus two hours to Kansas City. I don’t want to run the risk of them losing it again or someone dropping them or they get ran over by a luggage cart, etc. I had pretty much given up hope of getting it back and I’ve already started plans for a return trip to Alaska and try another moose hunt. I am just too far along with those plans to quit now so I guess I’ll have to go back. 😀🫎

Talked with AK Cargo when I picked up my horns and let them know this was their issue and they should waive freight cost They replied they tried to reach out to me several times. I asked them to show me their emails or call logs and they told me I will have to go online and file a claim not with her over the phone. When I let them know that I have called the corporate number, the MCI & STL terminals over 10 times over the past 6 months and could show them my call logs and that they stated every time that there was never a 2nd shipment. They said the cape was the only thing that was ever dropped off. They did not have the 2nd AWB in their system anywhere.

I showed the guy in STL my Renfros tag was still attached to the horns with my name and Phone # and asked why they didn’t reach out to me and he replied he will have to trach out to IT. I guess it maybe an automated system but why not take a min to call the # on the tag with your cell when it has been in the freezer for 6 months.

I paid for my horns 625.00 (plus the 75 for my cape 6 mo ago) so that I could take them with me and I guess I’ll file a claim based on principle.

I do feel Renfros could have done a little better with paper work as the original AWB only called out for a cape. I understand it is a busy season up there with a lot of moving parts.

I have shipped gear up to AK with Cargo for 5 hunts and will probably use them again In the future. I had a great hunt and recommend Wade and his crew. In the end shit happens, I got my horns a little later than expected, had a great trip with Renfros and a freezer full of meat, I’m happy I have everything. 100% success.
