Loose fitting merino base layers (for a fat kid)

I can't find a loose fitting base layer made out of merino that I enjoy wearing. Admittedly I've enjoyed one two many cervezas and my fair share of donuts, which consequently has resulted in me having a little extra insulation, so putting on base layers makes me feel like a sausage in a casing. I've even tried to order base layers two or three sizes too big (C4E) and still get that skin tight fit around the mid-section. I'm doing my part to lose some weight, so maybe one day I won't feel like a Vienna sausage, but in the meantime, I'd like to find a base layer that fits more like a t-shirt, anyone have any suggestions?

Evan, I haven't tried any first lite stuff, I'd like to but it's not an affordable option, got baby number three on the way so I was looking at minus33 and other comparable brands.

Minus33 zip T fits like a t-shirt. It's still snug, but if you go up a size or two it may hang like you want.

As a former obese man that went from barely functioning to sheep hunting in 15 months, I recommend the Paleo lifestyle. Marks daily apple will change your life if you want if to change.

that 1st post was so funny. hah.

like you, i dont like my stuff tight. i hate feeling like "10lbs of sugar stuffed into a 5lb sack". that said, i got firstlite. i just wear a Large, and it sorta drapes on me. i bet some of the bigger sizes would work awesome. you do see some of the larger sizes for sale on AT sometimes. people buy it and find it too large, i think.

good luck, and congrats on the new kid!!

I have 3 or 4 different brands of merino, and for me the Smartwool seems to fit the loosest. I too usually size up in base layers as I don't like that feeling as well.

Thanks that's what I was hoping to hear. And me and my wife are following a fairy low carb diet. Not paleo, because I like Greek yogurt and cheese, but fairly close.
