Been looking at some of the stuff posted by others and wanting to up the ante and spend some more time just chasing pics outside of hunting season. Been a huge fan of William Allard's work posted on "Bowsite" and now Aron Snyder is posting up the same quality of stuff. I went to the store looking at cameras. The one I was looking at was a Canon 70 with a 18-135 Stm lens and a 75-300 non stm lens. Any advice will be apreciated. I also am gonna shop more and see reviews. Bob.

What's your budget and what are you willing to tote around weight wise? Oh, and find what you want but price compare online.

If you are looking for a good compact DSLR that won't break the bank, check out Canon EOS M. I went away from large body DSLR a few years ago, its much easier to carry, takes great photos, and won't cost an arm and a leg to replace if you ever damage out in the field. It comes with a few lens options, but can take any Canon lens with the use of an adapter.

These are just some of the pics I have taken with it in the last year. Remember though, photography has very little to do with the camera.

I'll second the EOS M. Bought one on charvey's recommendation and am very pleased with its performance.

I am in the search of a camera as well and was informed about the Sony a6000 too. It seems to be what I am searching for but do not know anything about it.

I book marked this thread a week ago when this thread started. Anyone have any good leads on Black Friday sales for either of the above mentioned cameras?

Gents, if compact cameras are at all of interest I would suggest looking at the canon elph 110 or its newer siblings. I have a couple DSLR bodies with pretty nice lenses and this little camera takes some excellent photos compared to my big guns and it is small, compact, and light which is a huge plus for this back country hunter.

I have taken some excellent pics. As a bonus the tines up spotter adaptor system works with it and you can get some incredible long range pics and videos through your spotter all from a camera weighing less than 5 oz. It's a great system perfect for anyone interested in anything but the very upper echelon of picturing taking. Plus in today's digital world all the magic happens in the processing after your hunt is done anyway.

None of these have any post processing so they could be cleaned up and enhanced quite a bit. The last one was taken through my swaro spotter at almost 1.5 miles away. It was my first trip out with the camera/spotter/adapter combo and I have gotten quite a bit better at the long range pics and vids but you can see the potential. Still one of my favorite pics!

Do all of the compact with zoom lenses make a lot of noise turning on and zooming in and out? The older one I have now is really noisy, enough animals with in 100 yards could definitely hear it.

I did talk to Aron and some other folks. Got really good advice and I am going down the road of spending more money. One of the best deals I have seen and it took me a while to find it was at Digital Pros. They have a Nikon d610 ( fx frame ) with about 21 different packages to fit your needs. For under 2k you can get something that will work in a full frame DSLR based on my own research. I have not yet bought anything yet. The body usually goes for about $1600.00 add in the lenses and it is a good deal I need to do some more research on the lense offers in the package deals. So if anyone has advice there let me know. Bob.

Good choice bob!

I'm upgrading from a dx to fx this offseason hopefully!

I would suggest a good zoom lens 150-600 tamron if it was me. A good wide angle. 12-24 ish. As well as an all around lens 24-85 or so. It also depends on what type of photography as well.
