The conquest is a good bino and falls very short of the swaro slc. Why cheat yourself on a trip like this?

I keep reading this here and always wonder if the people saying it have actually had a Conquest and an SLC side by side in the field or if they are just parroting what others say and think.

I've owned two pairs of SLC's now. Sold them both after extensive side by side real world testing vs. Conquests and other bins. The sticky focus wheel, bulk, weight and added risk of losing a $1500 pair of bins didn't justify the microscopic (if even there at all) difference in optics. In fact, my Conquest HD's would routinely out-resolve the SLC's at the center of the image on numerous real world targets. These were tests I did on tripod and bench mounted glass, not hand-held. As they say, YMMV, but I'm not a sheep so I do my own objective tests and I know what I saw. The last thing is that we all bring our own lenses to the optics game, so there is a chance that Conquests will work better for some and SLC's will work better for others. But to flatly say that Conquests fall "very short" of the SLC is simply not correct in my experience.

I have had both. I thought the conquest was very good and probably my favorite in the price range. Really no complaints however, the color and clarity is much better in the slc. My post was not really a nock on the conquest but rather the $300 bino people try to compare. Like you said, we all have different eyes.

Like others have said, Newfoundland is likely going to be wet, and good chance of fog. I would prioritize wide field of view over high magnification, and would probably pick something in the 8x42 or 10x50 range. Moose are huge and can be easy to spot when they're right out in the open, but they have a crazy ability to disappear into the bush for something so large. That's where something with really good low light resolution will be the greatest benefit.

Be sure to try some cod tongues and a Jig's dinner while you're there. NFLD is awesome.
