Daughter wants a quality pack, color not an issues but big enough for extended trips. Any experience or suggestions appreciated.

How old is she? My son is 10 and I recently went through this with him. I ended up going to an REI and got him fitted. The salesman then loaded up packs with sandbags and pillows and my son walked around the store. I bought him the one that fit best, which was a $200 Gregory youth pack. From what I saw, most of the decent youth packs fall in the $150-200 range, but are adjustable enough that it will last him well into high school. I looked at it more as an investment.

The way that I see it, I don't want to hike around a poor fitting pack, so why should I force my son to? I want him to come to enjoy backpacking as much as I do.

That does make it easier, more good packs on the used market. My wife has a Gregory Deva pack that she finds very comfortable. You should be able to find a used one for around $100 I would think.
