Looking for some advice on Rifle Scopes and Suppressors.

I wonder how many people on here saying the 7 PRC has too much recoil actually own a 7 PRC or have shot one extensively. I have a 7 PRC with an 18” barrel topped with an APA Lil Bastard brake. Definitely not too much recoil…unless you’re a 6mm or 6.5mm fanboy perhaps.

I appreciate all of the feedback. I am new to long range shooting. I'm a bigger guy, so recoil doesn't bother me as much as it bothers others, I understand developing good techniques, and practice and being comfortable with your rifle is the most important thing.

My main goal is to use the 6.5 for deer in Minnesota, Montana and the Dakotas at reasonable ranges with the Leupold VX-5HD 3-15. As for the 7prc, I'm hoping to make that my Elk rifle and long range rifle as my skills develop. Maybe I am way off with my rifle line-up, maybe I'm getting close.

“I’m a bigger guy, so being hit with a hammer doesn’t hurt me as much as it does other people.”

Or,

“I’m a bigger guy, so bullets that work for women and kids don’t work for me.”

PS - welcome to RokSlide!

Haha not at all what I meant! That was the reason for getting the Sig Cross in 6.5. I wanted to get something with less recoil, and that had an adjustable stock, so that when my daughters get older it can be a rifle that will grow with them.

As a father and uncle who has trained nine kids to shoot, your daughters probably would prefer .223 (if legal in your state) or 6 ARC for their first - and last - deer rifle.

If it doesn’t have much recoil why did you have to install a massive gamer brake? 🥴

Some of us don't like going deaf to make a rifle shootable 🤣

Brake. Gross.

"massive gamer brake"? What does that even mean? Anyway, it's a small 3 port brake that I didn't HAVE to install. I shot it for a long time without the brake, but after putting a can on my 300WM, I moved that brake to the PRC. I get it...some of you are more sensitive to recoil and noisy brakes...that's okay, my wife is too.

I’m with some of the guys on here saying 7prc isn’t needed within the ranges you intend on shooting. If you want to maximize the Creedmoor capabilities it might be worth trying a couple of the new +peak offerings from Federal when available to see how they shoot in your rifle. They’ve *apparently* given an edge to the creedmoor that didn’t exist before.
As for suppressors, I don’t believe there is a “one size fits all”. There are things you must prioritize in order of importance to you specifically to find the right candidate for you.. Sound suppression, weight, cost, size, cartridge rating, direct thread/qd capability, etc…. It’s a trade off in many ways.

I am looking for some advice on optics and suppressors.

I currently have a Sig Sauer Cross with an 18" barrel chambered in 6.5 Creedmoor. I also have a Ruger American Gen II chambered in 7prc. I have a Leupold VX-5HD 3-15x44 scope currently on my Sig Cross. I am wondering if that scope should go on my Ruger 7prc or stay on my cross.

My cross will be used in Minnesota, and out west. My 7prc will only be used out west.

If I move the Leupold to the 7 prc, what scope should I put on the 6.5?
Or if I keep the Leupold on the Sig Cross, what should I get for the 7PRC?

I'm not trying to break the bank, I under stand that you get what you pay for, I am just not looking to spend Nightforce type of money for budget rifles.

I would also like some guidance for a suppressor that would work well with both rifles, that i can switch back and forth.

Thanks in advance.
Moving away from the 7prc recoil discussion, I think you’ve received some pretty good advice that may have come across just a little abrasively. But good advice none the less.

The questions you’re asking and probably your growth as a shooter mirrors many of us.

I don’t think anyone will try to convince you to spend Nightforce money, I know I certainly wouldn’t.

I would point you towards a 3-15 SWFA for the Creedmoor. It has a reticle that will 100% be useable at close range low mag deer shots. It’s sub $800. FFP. Mil based. And frankly more durable than the rifle you’re putting it on.
Mount it up, and then shoot the barrel out of your sig-cross over the next year if you can. That experience will inform a lot of decisions you will make going forward.

You can put the leupold on your Ruger. But the majority of your shooting and practice should be with the Creedmoor. Seriously commit to putting somewhere close to 100-200 rounds per week downrange with your Creedmoor.

Finally as for a suppressor.
7” welded steel, 10oz direct thread, $500. Find something that fits or gets close to those parameters.
