I'm looking for some scope recommendations for a Bergara mg micro lite. My range goes out to 800yd, it's a bit of a pain to maintenance that 800yd target, but I can easily drive for everything 50-600yd. I do plan to hunt with this when the opportunity arises but mostly will be hitting steel & paper at 200-800yds. Hunting can be any range really, 30-200 yards most likely.

Been shooting/hunting since the early 1990's, building AR's since around 2002, buying & making title II items (NFA) since 2008, just mentioning this to explain that all - all of it - isn't exactly new to me, not some new kid to shooting or rifles, is what I mean to convey. My requirements are as follows:

1) Reticle must be FFP, that I won't budge on,

2) But, I must be able to see the reticle at minimum magnification too. Given the requirement for FFP above, it has to have some thick "duplex-looking" bars that are visible at minimum magnification, they don't need to go all the way to the center of POA, but I beed to see them somewhere. You know what I mean. Or it needs illumination to make it visible at minimum magnification, I fear this eliminates an obvious scope*.

3) no smaller than a 42mm exit objective, no bigger than a 50mm. I need light but beyond 50mm it's too big for this rifle, in my mind.

4) Reticle needs a useable way to hold for windage. I don't necessarily care about the various ways in which the windage dial is implemented (capped or not, etc), but I plan to hold for windage with the appropriate reticle*.

5) weight, and length (to a lesser degree), are important. Remember, this is going on a lightweight rifle with a folding stock and an 18" barrel (+ silencer).

6) must be milrad reticle

My initial prospects are the Vortex Razor LHT FFP, the Leupold Mk5 HD, NF ATACR, and NF nx8. Budget is $2500. Would prefer $2k new/used. From my research, the Leupold Mk5 seems perfect except for whatever reason they don't offer the pr2 mil reticle with illumination, and that thing looks useless at minimum magnification from what I've seen.

I'm leaning towards the Vortex LHT, not sure if 50mm is going to overwhelm something like the MG micro lite. I would appreciate any pointers or well considered opinions & recommendations on this with respect to my requirements and setup. Thanks in advance and be gentle.

This is where you will end up…and save yourself about $1k.
