Looking for Inpute on new 2-10x42 SFP scope for hunting.

I’ve never looked through an accupoint, but can say that the credo hx is slightly better glass wise than my viper hs was and probably the same as the newer vortex’s that I have shot.
There are a ton of people who run vortex and others that never have issues or the issues aren’t noticeable. Heck my old man still hunts with his 4x Burris from 1980.
I’m in northern Alberta. The issue at least in my case is that over the years the landscape has changed and we have began shooting a lot farther. This has led me to become more focused on consistency and confidence. As a result, after my scope had failed I swapped it with another vortex I had, but couldn’t get it out of my head. I ended up shooting 2 boxes through that gun over the course of the season, just because i would put a few rounds through it every time I went out just to check it. In the end, the paranoia cost me a few hundred in ammo that would have been better spent on a different scope.

For 20-150 yards I’d just use a fixed prism in a good mount.

Yeah I hear you there. Im the opposite i feel like. Where I hunt on my grandfather(now our property) has grown up so much, most shots are under 100. But then there is the time where you can take a 200-350 yard shot so its nice to have the option. Any idea about the athlon midas hmr hd 2-15x50?

There’s a used ziess 3-12 x44 that’s on prophet rivers site currently. It might fit what you’re looking for. My brother has had a higher power version on his 7mag for years and it has been good. Glass quality is good.

There’s a used ziess 3-12 x44 that’s on prophet rivers site currently. It might fit what you’re looking for. My brother has had a higher power version on his 7mag for years and it has been good. Glass quality is good.

I guess I could buy the Vortex on amazon, see how the glass looks to my own eyes and if I don't like it I just return it, if I sold my trijicon accupoint 3-9x40, and use that towards something a little higher tier aswell, any idea what the going rate is? My scope has been used for two seasons, and is basically mint, maybe 20 shots fired out of my gun in that time.

I can tell you from having an had the 3-9 Accupoint, that Element 2-12, and the viper HD 2-10 that they're really neck in neck glass wise, to my eyes. If I were in your shoes and the accupoint was getting the job done, I would see no reason to change, unless eye relief is the issue. The 3-9 Accupoint is short on the top end, I think the viper was a bit better. I also played with that element 2-12 for a short while and I will say that it had the best fiber optic Dot of anything I've looked through. That one and the viper both just look fat on a lighter hunting rifle to me. LOL. It's nitpicking. But if you're not having to dial extreme distances I don't see much advantage in having the 30 mm tube.

Most the used ones I see around are usually in the 70% range of over the counter prices.

No one ever missed a big game animal, or even something smaller like a predator, because of parallax under 100 yards.

^^I have heard alot about retention,holding zero. For the longest time I used bushnell scopes because they were cheap/its what my dad always used and never seem to miss a shot and never had an issue with them. Anything from a 223, 270, 307, 308, 7mm rem mag before my trijicon. Is vortex really as bad as people say? If bushnell never gave me a problem and they are definitely on the cheaper end, I'm curious why so many people hate vortex so much

Bushnell have a better chance of being reliable than any vortex below the razor line from what I've seen.

You can say what you want about bushnell, but I've never had an issue with one, there's been one on my grandfathers 308 for close to 30 years and the only time its ever been touched is if we needed so check zero with new ammo.

I honestly don't think it matters what brand you buy, there is always going to be QC issues. Some brands just seems to get more slack. Generally the companies that get the most slack like vortex are also one of the top scope sellers every year. Which in turn makes sense, more sales = more possible QC issues.

But then again, logic is not always used in biased opinion.

I replaced a night force shv 3-10 with the first gen 2-10x42 vx5 on my cva cascade in 450 bushmaster. I am glad that I did for what I do mostly sub 100 yard hunting it just works better. The firedot reticle is simple and easy to see in low light in dense woods. I dial between supers and subs so having a lockable zero stop is a big deal when dialing without having to look at the dial. I missed a couple varmints with the shv trying to use the reticle but having the power not set correctly.

You can buy a used Schmidt Bender 1.5-6X42MM for around $1000.00 and have one of the best hunting scopes ever made.

Steiner Predator4 fits that criteria pretty well. Glass quality is good and has tracked well fir me doing work ups on a 338 Fed. The E3 reticle is good for a lot of normal rounds like a 6.5CM or my 338 Fed. It is not close for my 7mmRM though.

I have the ffp version of this scope and really like it. Jon was great to deal with and answered all my questions and their warranty is great if you need it.

I think I have narrowed it down to 2 options. The Meopta Optica 2.5-15x44 and the Torric UHD 2.5-15x44. These both kinda check all my boxes and have great simple illuminates rericles. I can get the Meopta for just under 1100 after tax and the Torric around 1300 after tax.

What do you guys think about these two? I have looked at some other options but I'm not a fan of the busy reticles from some other brands. Also this is going on a 7mm rem mag X bolt

I have the FFP version with the new style eagleman reticle. Haven’t mounted it on anything yet, but the glass seems crisp and clear. Turret is bigger than most, but is nice to operate. The Reticle is the reason I got one to try. Yes, the windage is excessive unless you want to hold wind in a hurricane. But I like the clean T style with it being open on the upper half of the scope. Durability wise I don’t know, I know there were issues with one tested on here a few years ago, but I figured I’d give it a try on a coyote gun and see what happens.
