I've never owned a SXS shotgun and am looking at the CZ Bobwhite in 20ga. Anyone have any experience with them or can recommend another model for under $800?

I had one and so did a hunting buddy. Both had to be serviced out of the box bc the triggers were near 10lbs. That being said, CZ was great about doing the service and they came back with tolerable trigger pulls. Fit and finish on the gun was B grade but for a gun to hunt hard with I liked it ok.

I'd check out the Dickinson line of shotguns at Cabela's. They are a MUCH nicer trigger plate action sxs and I think they go for about 1k

I've had several cz (huglu) shotguns and never had an issue. If you don't mind a silver coin finish, check gunbroker. Therr is a dealer in Wisconsin (jonssportinggoods, or something like that ) that has good deals on cz's (provides the reserve price in description ).

The Dickinson guns cabelas is selling are much nicer, but they are around 1400 new.

I have a CZ Bobwhite .410 and 20 ga in the safe. Had a 28 ga BW but sold it. The 20 ga is a bit "chunky" (6.75#s if memory serves me correctly...28" barrels) but mine is well regulated (shoots to the same point of impact for both barrels) and the choke system is great. I bought it used for $300 (steal!) and the previous owner had trigger work done so is great in that department. I prefer AYA #2 round body and Grulla round body sidelock 20s to carry, they are more refined, but many more $$$. I shoot the CZZ Bobwhite as well as the side-locks I mentioned, just don't like to carry it as well.

As per the .410....it is a wonderful handling little wand that breaks skeet and sporting clays targets well beyond its 1/2 ounce pipsqueak reputation. I never like the 28 ga with 26" barrels as well, just never shot it as well as the .410 or 20 ga Bobwhites. I've never had any malfunctions with the CZ Bobwhites, which is more than I can say for AYA single trigger box-locks or Ugartecha box-locks. Certainly the twin trigger guns (CZ Bobwhite) are more reliable in the economy class of doubles in my experience.

Hmmmm, maybe I'll be better off buying a Stoeger Uplander to see if I even like a sxs and then spend the money (when I have it) on a more refined quality build.
