My 10x42s are pretty heavy and bulky, and I find myself leaving them behind on casual hikes and strolls.

I need a pair of either 8x26s or 8x32s. I'm all about the best bang for the buck and purchasing things that punch above their weight.

I purposely didn't give my budget, since it's flexible and I didn't want to limit folks suggestions.

What should I look at? I should add that if it's 8x32s, I'd prefer they be on the compact side.

Thank you.

Top performers (and price)

1. EL SV - my current pair, but retail over $2k and used around $1500-1700 not good bang for buck.
2. Ultravid HD or HD+ - haven’t seen them, would like to
3. Victory FL - I looked through these. Had a bluish hue I didn’t like. Eye positioning was difficult for me.

High performance/best bang ($500-750 used, best guess)
1. Cabelas Instinct (Meopta Meostar HD) - compact, great build quality, great optical quality, big FOV. I own a pair and have for sale in classified. New $900. Give up very little to the EL (no field flattener, not quite as bright at low light, different ergos)
2. Leupold GR 8x32 - hard to find, not being made any more. Very good optical quality. Heavy for size. I didn’t like eye cups.
3. SLC new 8x30 - I just don’t like focusing knob at bottom vs too. Not being made any more
4. Swaro CL 8x30 - probably ($800 used), but good reviews
5. Maven - haven’t seen them, but good reviews
6. Zeiss Conquest HD - haven’t seen them, but good reviews
7. Leica Trinovid HD - I haven’t seen them, but good reviews, newer model

There may be less expensive models, but to me they don’t hold value.

- Sightron has an well reviewed model (blue sky) around $200. You get into model variance issues. Much harder to resale too.
