Decided I want to hire an elk guide for my first elk hunt. Have it narrowed down to Idaho, Utah or Oregon. (Please let me know if you think these states are foolish to choose)

Any guide/outfitter suggestions?

Will need to be OTC, want to keep it middle of the price range for elk hunts. Would be great if horses were an option but could do lodge, camp etc.

If it matters, just care about seeing elk and having a chance at a bull. Not concerned with getting a monster. Thanks!

Define middle of the price range for you

I did a hunt with Diamond D Ranch in Stanley, ID. Sounds like exactly what you are looking for. Id be happy to answer any questions you have, it was a great/successful trip and also my first elk. Highly recommend them.

I'd say Utah and Oregon dont compare to Idaho.
Unless you are buying a cwmu tag in ut. Then that's a different story.

Seems like guuded elk hunting in Utah is generally on limited entry units rather than general season units. In Utah a CWMU tag might be your best bet.

Colorado should also be on your radar. I would take Utah off the list for an OTC hunt, and a CWMU tag will put you over budget if you want mid-price.

ID and CO are your best options to just go hunt.

Look at Blue Mountain adventures in Oregon. Bob Staples runs a great outfit.

What weapon? There are no OTC rifle hunts in Eastern Oregon.

I've got a few for Oregon.

aimshighhunting who I work for, it's a real hunt but we do pretty good on success. Guaranteed lop tags. Cody Cole's, guaranteed tags both outfitter and lop high success rate with 20 years in business. Birch Creek guide service, Brian Campbell, guaranteed tags as well with a very high success rate as well.
