Looking at getting my 11 year old his own rifle.

I bought my 11 year old a tikka .223 in stainless and had it cut to 16” and also cut the stock to shorten lop. No regrets. I think you are on the right track.

When my son was 11 he used a 25-06. At 13 he used my 270wsm. My 11 yr old daughter will be using my regular 270. Im going to get a new stock for it with an adjustable lop and cheek riser. It’s the same model 70 I was given as a graduation gift from Highschool almost 31 years ago.

I’ll tell you. It’s not popular in some groups but I’ve been seeing allot of good stuff out of a bolt action 300 black out. With a can. I know one 11 year old year old that’s killed 4 deer with his. Just plan old ruger American.

Tikka in whatever caliber you deem shootable with an xlr chassis with tr2 butt. Fully adjustable from 9.5-13” lop

So my boys have been shooting since birth. Ha. They shoot mostly with my 223 bolt gun or a 223 AR. Both have killed deer and hunted with me alot

This is me buying them their first rifle for themselves.

Semi autos have a few drawbacks for me with a kid. No matter how much you teach them kids can and will make mistakes. Having something that a second trigger pull could kills someone is not a good thing for that age imo. It’s fine when I am there. But my 11 year old will be hunting his own stands soon. Going on hunts with friends and family. A bolt action is better there

At that age parent comfort is paramount. Lots of good rifles out there. Hard to make a bad choice. My oldest is 16 and I’m still on him about gun safety. He’s actually out with his coon dog now. I’m not a fan of a 223 for deer but they can get the job done. Some one makes a gun with a removable butt piece I just can’t remember who right now. I will add. They make bolt action uppers.

My first rifle was a model 70 30/06. Still have it. Not gonna do that to them yet. Ha

Started my son at 7 on a .243. By 14 the barrel was shot and I rebarreled it to a .308. He’ll probably shoot that forever now.

Another vote for a tikka youth 223. Bought my son one when he turned 9. He loves shooting it. And to be completely honest I shoot it more than him. We have put over a thousand rounds through it since July. With super cheap ammo it still shoots good enough to have fun at the range, and with Hornady match will shoot into the same hole at 100.
