Sorry if this is a repeat thread, but looking at getting a new bag. Looking at the western mountaineering alpine lite or trying a quilt. never heard of a quilt until recently. Whats the pros and cons of a bag vs quilt? the alpine weighs only 1.15lbs

I am actually considering the Alpinlite from WM and an Enlightened Equipment quilt also so I look forward to responses. One side note, the Alpinlite according to WMs site, is 1#15oz, so almost 2#, not 1.15#

WM bags are pretty tough to beat. I have two of them and they are VERY warm. I don't think you'd be disappointed investing in a WM bag.

Will Echo Luke. I have about 20 nights not including my car camping trips using my WM Highlite at 16 ounces its got a pretty unbelievable warmth to weight ratio. But I do have my eye on the new Slick Bag for sure. That is a great design. I just cant let my WM go though. Some great reviews on Moosjaw

You can't beat WM bags. I have the MF badger. It's awesome. It's a 15 degree bag. I have winter camped in single digits in it. Slept in just my boxers and was toasty warm. High quality bags.

Best. Bags. EVER! My WM Sequoia far outperforms the Big Agnes I just retired. I will never buy a bag from another company again, not because other companies' bags suck but because the Westerns are so damn good. Cant wait to zip mine together with my girlfriends WM bag for a night or two in my igloo ;)

I have the WM Alpenlite and love it! Their bags are warmer than advertised. Rare in the sleeping bag world. Quality is top notch. Have had my bag for three years and have lost zero down. Stitching on these bags is impeccable. You get what ya pay for

Wm makes a very well made bag. I'm curious to see if they will be trying any of the water repellent down that we are beginning to see.

If I were in the market for a down bag I'd be hard pressed to pull the trigger on one right now when kuiu is rolling out their water repellent down bag. But those will be available who knows when....

i did not like my 20 deg slick bag at all. i froze my butt in 40 degree weather.

i got the alpinlite..and i cannot wait to give it a go. i'll be using it in the cold ass AZ desert in a few weeks. last year, i couldnt even use my slick bag..i had to go and find my 0 deg, beat up marmot bag. which was too warm..it was awful. too cold, too hot.

talking to people..i just closed my eyes and thru the money at WM.

the zipper is awesome!! no snags yet!! i have a bum shoulder, and i tend to snag every bag i own..first zip with the slick was a disaster..my brother had to rescue me. haha.the zipper design is super smart..and the storage bag is better than any storage bag i have ever seen. dumb to get all excited for a storage sack, but the thing could be my laundry bag..it is burly.

Yeah sorry, what Luke said.
I've seen an ultralite, caribou, and alpinlite on there in the last three days.
I just picked up an EE epiphany quilt off there for decent price. Hoping to test it out this February wolf hunting.

Ive got the versalite and it is an absolutely fantastic bag. Very warm...rated to -12C but does better for sure. I've probably used mine about 350 times and its almost as warm as the day I bought it. And Ive only washed it once. Highly recommended.

WM highlite bag was my first high quality ultra light bag. Awesome bag that I bought for summer backpacking (before I started backpack hunting). I think the temp rating was 35 degrees on that bag but I spent some pretty cold nights in the sierras with it and was always comfortable. I would still have it and probably use it if I didn't fall in love with the big agnes pad sleeve system. And WM bags are made in my home town! Local sporting goods store in San Jose, CA "Mel Cotton's sporting goods" is about the only place I have ever seen WM bags at "sale" prices. They have them at 20% off almost 12 months out of the year. Intact they are the only retail store I've ever heard of that actually stocks them.

Steamboat right Ozz? I have the Antelope and love that thing. It the shell is made with Windstopper and any water I have get on the bag so far has beaded right off. I got mine in Golden, CO at a Mountaineering store. I guess if you ever feel like the bag has lost its loft, they will re stuff it for $20, just have to send it to them.
