No personal experience going for more than a few days at a time in a wall tent.

However, to the OP or anyone else - check out a book titled “The Indian Creek Chronicles”, by Pete Fromm.

It’s a excellent book about the seven months the author spent living alone with only his dog through a winter in Idaho.

Per your recommendation I just ordered this book. I’ve been trying to find a book to read for an upcoming vacation and this sounds great. Thanks.

I did a little over a year when I was a kid. My family bought a property in the Sierras of CA when I was in 8th grade. We built the house (we built the two I grew up in and my brother's house) and Dad gave my brother and I his wall tent to stay in while we were building. My folks bought a trailer but the beds in back were only 5' and my brother and I are both over 6'. We built a shower/bathroom shed and an outdoor kitchen. Pretty good living!!

I can tell you from living in western Washington for 55 years, it’s going to suck. Too wet that time of year. It’s a cold wet.

I have a 14x16 which would be big enough to stay in. I would look into having a sown in floor to keep the mice and other bugs out. Also extra windows are helpful for lots of reasons.

As long as it's not winter and I had satellite TV with a generator, I could live in my tent 7-9 months out of the year every year. "A man's got to know his limitations." I hate winter.

As it is, I already spend most of September living in my wall tent.......even without TV.

a couple months at a time for a few years while guiding. But it was in MT Sept-Nov. I would have to imagine Washington is damp and cold through the winter....if I was working I'd be fine but just to do it? no thanks.

My thoughts are what's the diff? Tent or house? Its a roof over yer head, cot or bed to sleep on, need some kind of heater in cold - how about a chair, lamp, TV, portable A/C in summer (we do that down here when camping in summer). No problem.

Some folks are just soft. ;) ya do whatcha gotta do.

I think the biggest difference in your quality of life will be a solid stove and continuous access to dry wood... Living and hunting in WA I can tell you that you won’t have it without buying from someone with a sheltered wood stock. Everything here is in a perpetual state of damp from Sept-July.

My now wife, my then vizsla, and I...lived in a 14x18 (I believe) for over 2.5 years on my property while I (slowly) built our house, by myself, in Colorado.

Built a raised platform with front deck, enclosed and double wrapped with concrete blankets and tarps.
Even had a bridge.

14X16 minimum and put it on a solid base ie: plywood and preserved wood 2x4 or 2x6 and secure the bottom of the walls. Tarp it, add a decent wood stove (not a thin barrel "hippy killer") and a "porch".

Lived in wall tents for up to 4 months in SE Alaska for 4 summers. Was often rainy and wet. We had wood stoves for heat but switched to gravity fed diesel stoves, the diesel was great as you didn’t have to feed the stove constantly.
One thing to consider is that the wind can blow quite strong in Puget Sound, so you’ll want to be sure to have the tent very well secured.
Tarp the roof, get a waterproof floor (or built an elevated wood platform) and make the most of it.

I would live out of a van before a tent. At least with a van you can come and go and not worry about leaving your tent and camp unattended.

There’s usually a free burned out camper on Craigslist that might be able to be fixed up enough that it would work out way better than a tent. Tarps are definitely going to be a good investment
