I'm thinking about building a long throated 223 Remington match on a Tikka in a 20" barrel. I'm not sure if I should do 1:7, 1:6.5 or 1:6. Goal is to run 88 eldms for practice and for varmint. I have piles and piles of 223 brass and want a good prairie dog gun that I can shoot the bejezus out of without burning out the barrel and that can hang tight in the wind. Has anyone accomplished a similar build? Mountain tactical is making 2.6" OAL mags for Tikkas and that is what I'll be using. Tips and lessons learned are what I'm digging for. I plan to send in a catridge with bullet for the gun smith to set the custom free bore. I was considering loading a 22 creed light but just don't need all that horsepower and don't want to buy a bunch of brass, dies, etc. I'm really just looking for a gun I can chug large volumes of ammo out of without consequence but still handle the wind. My friend also has a progressive so I plan to just crank out ammo cans full of 223.
