Long and skinny or short and fat... compression sacks that is

Hey guys, this may have been asked or discussed before, but I was wondering if you guys liked the Kifaru style (long) compression or the typical short and fat (Outdoor research type) compression.

I for one HATE my old style compression sack because it turns my bag into a hard fat ball that is impossible to pack around. I also like the idea that I can roll up my Big agnes with the air core in it and maybe compress it the long way with the kifaru.

What say you?

Personally, I don't think either is my absolute preference. I would love (and hope to get some made this winter) to have sacs that were sized to fit perfectly in my pack and would compress/zip more in a flat manner. Then you can just stack in different sacks with different gear and it all fits nicely and efficiently.

Granted, this is more for stuff sacks as opposed to compression sacks that would need better compression abilities. I agree that while I like the Sea to Summit eVent compression sacks for my bag/pad or other gear I want to keep dry, the hard ball aspect is a pain and hard to pack around aside from loose socks and underwear.

For my sleeping bag, I shoot for something that when compressed makes a nice bottom layer in the pack. The sea to summit works well for my current bag/pack combo. For most everything else, I rarely use a compression bag. I just stuff into a LW drybag or cinch top. Most of that stuff (puffy coat/pants/vest) I want quick access to and I'm willing to give up compression.

I might start vacuum sealing socks and spare clothing that I don't expect to use until later in the hunt though.

I like the Kifaru style sacks for the same reasons as stated above. I hate having a ball in my pack. I have used my vacuum sealer to seal up extra clothing as well as my game bags and it works great. I do not have to worry about the clothing getting wet. Vacuum sealing that stuff really takes a ton of volume out of your pack.
