Lightweight stock options

I have two Greyboe stocks on M700 clones in the 41oz range. They are very stiff and easy to shoot will, but they are unnecessarily heavy for hunting guns.

One of them is getting replaced by a Stocky's VG2.

Another vote for Peak44 Bastion. Not a fan of the recoil pad for heavier calibers but a 243 would be cake. Very straight recoil impulse, good weight, great bag ride, and easy handling. I have several stockys as well including the VG2 but prefer the Bastion.

The trigger reach from Stockys is indeed too long, but it’s a simple mod and I’d be happy to do it for you if you aren’t into DIY stuff.

I’ve shot a lot of stocks and it’s still amongst my favorites that I’ve used after trigger reach modification.

Hey Tanner,

The site won't let me direct message you. Maybe because I'm too new? Wondering if you could send me a message so I could discuss having you do this to a stock for me.

Thanks!

I really like the following for light weight and all shooting positions, especially prone. It's about as light as you can get. They have an ~16 week lead time. Vertical grip, negative comb, butt in line with bore, with the focus of light weight, it's my favorite:

I've not used it with a 700, only Tikka's.

I agree with what your saying, but the Oryx is 4.2 pounds so I'm not chasing ounces but rather pounds. That stock is 67 ounces compared to something that is 25-30oz. I'm trying to stay under 10lbs. Preferably closer to 9.

I'm wondering if I should just get a XLR or ultradyne chassis and put an AR stock on it I'm comfortable with. That would put me at around 35oz or under. I have a lilja #5 barrel so it just looks weird in a barrel channel that will accept a 1.25 straight, but beggers can't be choosers.
That’s fair, 67 oz is a different conversation. At that point you really are cutting pounds, not ounces. An XLR or similar could work if you like chassis ergonomics, just make sure you’re looking at full weight once the stock, grip, and hardware are on it. The big barrel channel around a #5 would not bother me much since that’s mostly a looks issue.
