Does anyone make a softshell hiking pant with a full side zip? That with a pair of side zip merino bottoms would be great for not overheating while hiking and just zip it back up to glass.

I've yet to find a pair of pants like that though. Hook me up people.

I've searched high and low all over for these and have yet to find them myself. You'd think someone would get into it just to try it for sales for a single season at least.

Man it's not soft shell. But I went with the Yukon kuiu pants. Full zipper. Pretty much as quiet as a soft shell and double as rain gear.

Yikes, 26oz and $300 not my ideal hiking pant ha!

It looks like ill end up getting a pair of Arcteryx Gamma LT or AR pants and having rainy pass install a side zip in them.

They're not exactly hiking pants, more of a XC run/ski pant that Salomon makes called the momentum II. I think they're discontinued but still available all over online. Soft shell, full zip, 16 oz.

Mountain Hardwear Alchemy pants. They're incredible. Full zip, Windstopper, fit like jeans, tough as hell through brush and alders and warm enough for cold days. They don't make them anymore, but they're ice climbing pants and there's current models out there form MH, OR, Arc'Teryx and Haglofs.

if REI put a side zip in their Mistral pants (like in the Kuiu attacks or guides), it would be the perfect pant for multi season use.

Have you considered convertible pants? I use these a lot while scouting. Shorts that breath while pushing big climbs and zip the bottoms back on while glassing.

in the morning i start off with merino base layer and hiking pant. 30 min in i get to hot but cold when i stop to glass. id like to be able to have a system that will cover a wider variety of temperature ranges.

the problem with convertibles is i can't make that adjustment without taking my boots of.

id like on the fly adjustments.

And thanks kodiakfly, ill look around for those alchemy pants.

In colder weather the convertibles don't work for me at all either. Warmer weather scouting I don't wear a base layer and usually they work great.
