Looking for light load for my son. Shooting 120 nosler ballistic tip. cant find anything under 3000 fps. Wanting to drop to around 2500. Thx
Hodgdon has a reduced load formula for H4895, it is 40% reduced load from the max powder charge. You can find the info on it on the Hodgdon site. It is under the reference data section. I used to load 6mm Rem and 30-06 loads for my son when he was starting out. Trick may be finding a H4895 load for the 7 mag. Hodgdon may be able to help you with that.
Good call, Thinking on this It would have been better to not put any percentage on the thread and just said where to find the information. Hodgdon does a good job of explaining the process. Hope everyone would go to the original source before using this data.Just to clarify the recommended reduced load is a 60% of max charge. That means a 50 grain max load in the book is reduced to a 30 grain charge.
When I first read the quoted post I read it as stating a 40% of max but it does say reduces so I don't know if it was a typo, error, or just expressing the charge from the other direction than all of the Hodgdon literature does. I only post this in hopes that it prevents someone from possibly getting hurt.
