Just throwing this data point out there

reducing bullet in weight from say a 162gr at 2700 in the 7mm-08 to the 120gr at 3100 I’d say the reduction in recoil was negligible. That’s shooting them literally back to back.

for how good 155gr Scenar rates across a broad spectrum of uses it’s a hard bullet to overlook in the 308.

I’ve seen what a 130gr Barnes does at 300 yards out of a 3000fps launch and no way am I intentionally notching tags in open country with that combo. It’ll work but wound profiles will be pretty minimal if lung shots are counted on

OP, why not just put a brake on it?

I actually have one on, I am thinking I might take it off so I dont have to worry about ear protection.

I think one of the bigger things I am trying to achieve is also less bullet drop hence the lighter bullet travelling faster

TAC is a great powder to use with lighter bullets in the 308. I can't remember the exact numbers but TAC and 130 TTSX worked very well.

That said I now use 168 ELDs and 2000-MR powder in my wife's 16" 308 and get very good velocity (north of 2700 fps) with that combo and the better BC means more velocity (and ft/lbs of energy if that matters to you).

Hey Luke how much powder are you using for this load? I think I might try something similar out :)

That's cool. I'll be interested to hear how this shakes out for you. I am essentially building the same kind of gun now. Tikka T3x Lite Stainless (or Superlite?? can't remember) and I'm going to chop the barrel to ~20" or less if I can, and thread for a brake or can. Would like to be able to shoot elk to 450 and deer to 600 if possible.

I’ve been playing with 165 Game Changers out of a Remington Model 7 308 over 8208. Getting the best speed I’ve ever gotten out of that rifle with single digit ES and SDs. 43.9 grains is giving me 2670 with an SD 3 and an ES of 8. Twice fired Winchester brass, Federal 210M, shoulder set back .002, using a carbide mandrel to expand the neck. 43.5 shot as well with a speed of 2648 with an SD of 7 and an ES of 13. Both those are ten round averages with a magneto speed.
