Liberation Day

Ask the installer why the price went up. It wasn't because of the proposed tarriffs. Everything got more expensive when the previous administration declared war on energy. Biden essentially cancelled the Keystone pipeline his first day in office. The entire supply chain runs on energy, and when the price for your fundamental input for production and transportation of all goods increases dramatically, everything goes up.
That energy price thing is very fluid in impact. I work in the oil and gas industry in Oklahoma. Many farmers love fat royalty checks. Obviously the big energy producers pay vast amounts of state taxes and provide numerous high paying jobs. That money then goes into the economy with restaurants, vehicles, hotels, housing, etc.

Regardless of Biden we were drilling an awful lot of wells here. Personally, I smile when oil is over $85 because I know more work is coming my way.

Jimbuck: Big corporations have nothing to do with most of the superfund mining sites. The vast amount deals with 100 years or more of activities at mineralized sites. The companies evolved into the site or bought their way into it. The best way to clean up our history is to mine the sites under todays technology and operating rules. The solutions are not hard but many areas took over a hundred years to get where we are and the solution will take a while to work our way through it.

During WWII many areas were reprocessed because the waste of the first century was richer than the ore of 1900s. The recoveries of modern operations evolve and are more and more efficient. It is a process that continues to get better.

The epa solution is to bury everything. We should be looking at reprocessing where ever we can.

I have degrees is fisheries, geology, multiple degrees in mining, teach specific aspects in metallurgy. After over 50 years in the industry , Bureau of Mines, universities and continuing work in the field I have a better understanding of the problems and the solutions. The epa doesn't have any of those fields covered. They are working blind. I have visted and worked in old and new mines in the six western states as well as Peru.

Don't give me the crap that the problems are because of the corporations.

I'd love to see that HVAC line item in the supply chain go up over 100% in 3 years because gas went up $.50

Let me ask you a simple question. If the stock market was at an all time high, inflation was coming down dramatically and unemployment was relatively low, what was the urgent crisis that warranted these tariffs??

I fail to see the logic especially considering the state of affairs. Maybe we need to trim some fat sure, but this broad approach is not rational.

I suspect when the average person’s expenses go up, and their farm subsidies get hammered, and their poor momma can’t get Medicare, and their 401 gets hammered; the result will not be a republican gain.
Pick your answer:
  1. The 0.74 lbs or 0.13% of total fentanyl seized in the US from the northern border
  2. American companies offshoring manufacturing in the 1970s and 80s during the containerization boom now scapegoated on other countries
  3. Transition from income tax on highest earners to sales tax on consumers in the form of tariffs

I haven't seen this posted. I would guess the part about "including currency manipulation and trade barriers" is doing some heavy lifting.

Good to see Botswana taken down a notch, we've been a victim for too long.

Gas here was $1.59 the day Biden took over. The day Biden left the same gas station by my house it was $3.29. That’s a little more than $.50. And yes, everyone that uses gas to do business passed that on to you. My truck has a 38 gallon tank so adding almost $2 dollars a gallon to fill it up is noticeable.

If tariffs are so bad for the economy- then why do many countries place a tariff on US goods?

Here's what most people- even the talking heads- miss about Tariffs;

True; Tariffs alone are a goods tax, much like when the democrat admins raise taxes to Corporations- it's a pass through to the consumer.

You have to focus on the whole picture;

Tariffs CAN be part of a comprehensive strategy that is very good for our country- which is what I'm hoping for here.

The tariff does drive up the cost of overseas goods....BUT it also brings in Billions to the government so the gov can offset and reduce taxes. [just like the push for gov efficiency will reduce the tax burden]

It also brings in investment to the country- just like we are already seeing even with the threat of tariffs.

It creates a level playing field.

It protects US jobs and brings in jobs

It helps with our national security- remember when folks were clamoring for masks during Covid? Yeah, we let China hold us hostage for those as we stopped making them. Can you imagine if we were in a war with many of the parts for our fighter jets and military is made by the enemy?

There are people that claim, "We don't need to make anything"....so we can just be pigs at the trough consuming cheap goods like there is no tomorrow?

We have created a hole for ourselves over the last several decades being addicted to cheap goods. It breaks, just throw it away. I think it will be a bit of a painful adjustment for many- but it's good for the country that we all will still speak English vs Chinese in the future.

I'm not talking about those people. I am talking about someone like myself who did things the "right way".

Stayed out of trouble, went to school, worked hard, got a job, worked hard and is now working for a company in the S&P 500 with a working spouse that is being squeezed on the basic necessities of life.

I know dozens of people in my own circle experiencing the same thing.

Where does the carousel stop? Our children not being able to afford to buy a car, house, or have kids of their own?
Aren't you kind of making Trump's point? You did "everything right" , yet you still are being squeezed? Do you think we should continue down the same path we have been on? Tariffs are going to bring real pain to a lot of people imo. I also think that in the long term, they have the ability to be a good thing. Time will tell. I do know that it seems your story is far too common any more. Clearly the last administration did not help you out. Let's hope this new approach does better for you and everyone else.

I have zero faith that any administration let alone this one would follow through with this, they are going to have their cake and eat it too. We at the bottom will all foot the bill like always.

I like and agree with some of your other points and maybe that’s what the end result will be if these stick.

Well stated.

But clearly the average American only cares about the cost of their next flagship bow.

This is going to be tough on those people and they’re going to throw tantrums which will make getting this done difficult. People who voted for Trump are already complaining that this thing or that thing is going up in price. They have no clue how to play the long game. They’ve been conditioned to spend spend spend for far too long.

My hope is Trump succeeds in what he’s trying to do despite these people. I guess time will tell.

True, the Average American IQ sure seems to have dropped in the last couple decades.

Trump speaks of playing the long game- tough to do when he only has 4 years....and he is fighting the 40% of the country that is dumb as a brick.

We have dug a huge hole by offshoring everything.....no way that turns on a dime. I think you are right about the avg person not seeing the big picture AND being impatient.

It would be easier- I think- if he was a better communicator...but I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt.

I'm just glad I'm not looking to retire in the next 5-10 years...Its gonna get ugly before or if it ever gets better for the working class.
All this approach will do for the forseeable future is burden us with higher costs of living while keeping the fat cats up top getting fatter at our expense.

I think there is potential for the current approach to pan out well long term if the populous can stomach it and finacially ride it out for 10 years or better, I'm not sure it'll take 40. However, i have serious doubts the GOP can maintain unity and majority long enough to see this aggressive approach through. A changing of the guard in the midterms, next presidential election, or even the following mid terms is all it will take to bring progress on this agenda to a screeching halt and then we will all have suffered through the burn it down phase with little prospect of building it back better in any sort of timely fashion.

They know this is a long play. Maybe thats got something to do with the mentions of this "third term" nonsense🤷‍♂️... They know that the right has to maintain control and unity long enough for this approach to bare any fruit. I'm certainly hoping this is all that well thought out anyways.

Its a big gamble with alot of people's finacial security and well being and likely going to put a dent in the nest egg of ALOT of folks that are nearing or at retirement age in the next few years...and those folks still vote so thats going to be a big hurdle to keeping this American Industrial/manufacturing Renaissance idea going.
I have no idea how this will play out long or short term presently, but I'm not currently in the 'Optimistic' camp.
All I know with any degree of certainty about this so called 'Liberation' and tarrifs is many things are gonna get more expensive, wages will stay flat, and most will have even less discretionary income to enjoy life with. The little guy will get squeezed more while the rich get richer...nothing new, the wheel keeps turning until enough spokes break that it collapses.
Hopefully my feelings and understanding of how this will play out are wrong. In the mean time...ill just get up and go to work as usual. We'll pass higher parts prices on to customers and raise rates enough to maintain our bottom line as our personal and staffing expenses increase.
New cars getting more expensive and people keeping what they have longer is likely to keep my current line of work busy until people just can't afford to own and operate vehicles anymore.
I can see this approach potentially benefitting me personally...but I still dont it's a good move overall.
Good news is we can all just sit back and see how it turns out good or bad...cause we sure as hell don't have much of any control presently.

Please place your tray tables and seat backs in the upright position, secure any loose items and be sure your seat belt is buckled as the Captain has informed us we'll be experiencing some strong turbulence for the remainder of this flight🤣

Please help keep this forum on track.
@birdman22 - “keep this forum on track”? Really?

Seems like this entire thread is against the forum rules.

Whether intended or not, it has gone down the political rabbit hole.

“ As a general rule of thumb, don't bother posting threads in which the subject matter is political and in no way shape or form related to hunting, fishing, public land, public land access, firearms, etc. There are plenty of other social media and forums for you to discuss such matters on, why litter this forum with them?

It’s refreshing to have a place where you aren't being constantly inundate with political rants, issues or crisis. The politics in this country have forced itself into every freaking corner of every day life. At Rokslide we want to talk hunting and take a break from the political echo chambers.”
