I'm thinking about going a little unconventional (for myself anyway) with my deer tag this year --.454 Casull in a lever gun instead of the 7mm08 or 7mm rem mag I'd normally take. It's going to be 150 yards max along the Missouri River. Anyone hunt deer with that cartridge before?

Not the 454 but an uncle of mine killed a lot of deer with a marlin 1894 in 44 rem mag. I want to say his last load was 300gr nosler sporting hanguns doing 1300 something?

I do know his last deer was the 2nd or 3rd biggest doe I've seen taken at 113yds. Blood trail was sparse but trackable and we found her 95yds later. Clean pass through on a quartering away shot. The casull should be fine

I got this JM Marlin 45/70 back in college, it’s a really fun gun to shoot and I’ve killed a couple of deer with it.

With the 454 casull out of a rifle I expect you’ll get a big bump in velocity over what’s listed on the box, my dad’s 44 mag carbine gained about 400 FPS over advertised speeds
