Growing up as a Lefty like my father, we used lever action rifles all the time. He did have a LH Rem 700 BDL which is now mine, but other than that we used Savage 99 rifles.

I have several now. .250-3000, .284 Win, .300 Savage, .358 Win. and all are great shooters.

I'm super fond of my Marlin 336 in .35 Rem. No scope, it wears a Williams peep. Fun fact, I grew up in the town where Marlin's we're built, their factory was about a mile from our high school.

I like it. My 444 Marlin is the guide gun, an 18.5" ported barrel. Handles great. I like the short carbine concept for timber. Makes a bigger THOOM echo in the woods as well.
i run a 444p marlin they are called the outfitter not guide gun

I live in northern alberta where the bush is thick with Elk and our rifle season starts mid Sept ( right in the rut) my marlin dark in 45-70 16.25" barrel with XS ghost ring sights is my go to gun. Later season if hunting cuts or feed areas I'll use a scoped rifle in a flatter shooting cartridge, but if there's a skiff of fresh snow I'll be tracking them to their beds and the Dark goes along. My 336 in 30-30 with Skinner peep and williams firesight front bead is one of my favorite deer gun for Nov rattling. Probably 50% of my hunting is done with a lever and irons

Man you guys are gonna make me get grandpa's model 99 250-3000 out. I have 7 or 8 levers in the safe but that's my favorite. I've always wanted a browning blr in .270 though, some day.

I just purged the safe to fund a fierce rival and simplify things by getting rid of guns I havent shot in years that overlap the job of other guns... But this thread has me itching....

Of the thirty or so rifles in my gun room my trio of Marlins are my favorite. 1895 marlin dark 45/70 with factory xs sights and tr25 mounted mid rail, 336w 30-30 with Skinner low profile peep and williams firesight front bead, and marlin 39A with lyman receiver peep sight with factory front sight. Dynamite trio for all hunting.
Would love to add a 1894 in 38/357 someday to round out the line

I shot my first deer with a model 99 savage in 300 savage passed down from my grandfather. Still have it. This makes me want to pull it out of the safe

I had one of those mornings where you wake up, an decide you need something. Then a day turns into months and I finally decided to commit to it. My new to me Marlin 1895CB 26in Octogon Barrel JM in 45-70. I'm excited to go down the lever action road.

I'll likley be shooting one of the Leverevolution catridges through it. I'll use it for everything from Antelope to elk to bear. . I'm going to scope it at first while I figure it all out and then get a nice set of skinner sights and go iron sights someday.

Has anyone had luck with their lever gun? Post some animals you got with your lever. Seems like long range rifles are getting all the love recently.

Congratulations !!
I have not hunted with a lever in a Very long time. I don’t think I have actually killed anything with one. But, I definitely appreciate and like them. I have carried Marlin 45-70 when hiking in the off season. With the 400 + grain hard cast flat points and the now flat point copper 350 + grain bullets it is very good closer range thumper.
I have a blued and a stainless Marlins that I had the barrels cut to 20” and some of work done on them. I have had a resurgence on interest in lever guns. The stainless 45-70 I recently added a scope. Though have not sighted it in. I look forward to shooting it.
Since putting the scope on that 45-70, I have picked up another Marlin in 45 Colt, and a few Winchester M94 AE’s in revolver cartridges. Lever guns are a lot of fun and still very effective within their range.
