I'm in the market for a handy lever action, currently thinking 44 mag for similar reasons as in this earlier thread:

The trick is that I live in a locale that limits magazine capacity to five (5) rounds maximum. Does anyone know of a model that has a magazine this small? Or is there a manufacturer out there that provides a custom follower or something similar to limit the capacity?

Thanks in advance.

Put a dowel in the tubular magazine, just like you would to make your shotgun migratory bird legal.

True. I don't know whether a dowel would count as an acceptable modification to possess it (not to limit its capacity while in use) within my locale. If it does, that would make my life easy.

For the sake of this thread let's say that the police department would say no, a dowel isn't permanent enough.

I think you are out of luck chief unless you go to the 45-70. Federal Fish and Game officers are the baddest law enforcement out there…plugs have been ok with them since 1935. All the levers I know have full length magazines in pistol cartridges.

Check with your fish and game department. In some states with magazine limits, tubular magazines are exempt since they're non-detachable and fiddly to reload by comparison.

As mentioned... magazine plugs are pretty typical and good to go in every locale I'm aware of for waterfowl hunting.

Outside the U.S., tube magazine capacities are permanently restricted with a crimp in the tube smaller than the rim diameter of a shell. I've never even seen that in the U.S.
