Leupold Golden Ring 10x42 vs leupold bx-4 pro guide

sending in my 10-42 golden ring binos for warranty work and the rep said i can either replace them with bx-4 pro guide hd’s or have them repaired. i’m curious how the bx4’s stack up against the golden ring or if i should opt to get the new ones.
thanks guys!

i’ve seen it happen. tried finding someone local to me with a set instock to no avail.

I spent a week in an antelope blind with a pair of Leo Gold Ring 7-12 switchpowers and my 8X32 EL's. Morning, evening, close, far, etc etc. I was crazy impressed with the quality of the GR's. The earlier Gold rings were well built and USA I think with lifetime warranty. I sold mine and still regret it. My vote is keep running them.

I'd get them fixed. Nothing from Leupold's current lineup compares, IMO. My 8x42 GRs are one of my favorite hunting tools.

The biggest mistake I ever made was selling my absolute cherry 8x42 Gold Rings to finance a Swarovski SV EL. I regret that daily. I suppose I should point out that my disappointment with the SV was I am severely afflicted by the rolling ball issues some have with flat field designs.

The Pro Guides have been upgraded a little from the original set I had for review. The one advantage they have over the GR is that they are a hell of a lot smaller. They are pretty decent optically and you would likely enjoy the Pro Guide. However it has been over a year since the review and I don't know what the improvements were. I am typically an 8x user, but I liked the 10x Pro Guide better.

The problem with the peeling coating is just like getting older. It does not get any better tomorrow. If you can get the Pro Guide for noithing at least you have a better than decent glass to use if you need to look for something better, a need which only you can determine.

i think the Mojave HD-s are better than my GR Switch powers. game seams to pop out. i think they discontinued the Mojaves last year. not sure why Leupy bounces around with model names.

I recently switched from Gold Ring 10x42 HD to the BX3 pro guide HD in 8x42 and have no regrets. The pro guides weigh a lot less, have a threaded hole for easy tripod use and feel better in my hands. The glass seems equally good to me.
