I've recently purchased a left hand Tikka .223 CTR for a trainer rifle. I already have a Tikka T3x .270 w a fixed 6x42 Leupold FX-III on it and so far no issues.
I'm aware of all the holding zero issues that Leupolds have though I've yet to have an issue with mine. My question is: does anyone think the FX-III model is more durable than their variable zoom models? I'm thinking of either buying another 6x42 Leupold for the .223 OR buying a better 2.5-15/3-12 x 44mm scope for the .270 and moving the 6x42 off my .270 to the .223.
I hunt all species in Alberta so would like to be able to shoot 500 yards with this gun. So far I have not had issues shooting mule deer at 340ish yards with the fixed 6 so I don't mind sticking with this if it's a durable option. On the other hand I don't want a Leupold sitting on it with big potential of failure when Im back on a sheep hunt. Obviously I don't mind if the 6x42 sits on the .223 as its just a practice rifle.
Opinions?
Thanks all

From what I hear, Leupold is no longer making FX scopes but yes, the FX is considered more durable than the variables and there is a market for the FXs. Many of us prefer them.

I have a half dozen FX 6 powers and after using them for decades, I have to wonder why I ever had a Variable for hunting.

The 6x with Long Range Duplex reticle is most sought after.
