I have the 8x42 in bx5 and love them. I got a great deal on them though. I also have the viper Japan series in 8x42 and nikon monarch(early japan) and the bx5 is superior to them all. Love the glass, but honestly have not put them through the wringer yet.
I had vortex vipers last year and was looking to upgrade them. Bought some Steiners and Zeiss conquest and eventually sent them back. Didn’t justify the small bump in clarity for the $400. I saw a leupold rebate for a carbon fiber tripod when you buy the bx-5s so I pulled the trigger on those. They are crazy bright. I love them and very crisp. Seriously they are phenomenal.
i just bought a new pair of 8x42 BX5 HD Santium's for $500. I have compared them to my 10x42 SLC and 8.5x42 EL's. I like them a lot actually. I don't like the eye cups as they move easily and don't care for the barrel diopter adjustment. The diopter adjustment has play and can move going in and out of a pack. it is stiff to move but would like it to click or have more stiffness. The FOV is smaller than the EL's i have and pretty close, but larger than the SLC's. during dusk testing they sure did hold their own. These are my EDC/truck binos. If you can find a deal on them i would jump all over them. I would hunt with them for sure as they are lighter and you don't give up much compared to the swaros. With that said they are not on the swaro level but solid choice for sure.
I have a new never used pair of 12x50 BX5 Santiam that I’m selling because I got a great deal on a pair of vortex fury and don’t need both.
I would consider a trade for a lightweight spotting scope that’s easy to backpack with
